GrrlScientist is an evolutionary biologist, ornithologist, aviculturist, birder and freelance science and nature writer. A native of the Pacific Northwest, she relocated from Seattle to NYC with her parrots after earning a BS in Microbiology (emphasis in Virology) and PhD in Zoology (Ornithology) from the University of Washington. In NYC, she was the Chapman Postdoctoral Fellow at the American Museum of Natural History for two years, pursuing part of her "dream" research project by reconstructing a molecular phylogeny of the parrots of the South Pacific islands. GrrlScientist and her five parrots are currently relocating to Germany, where she will continue writing her blog while also writing a book and learning German. (Meanwhile, her parrots will continue to nibble on her extensive personal library.) If you appreciate GrrlScientist's writing, you can help pay her living expenses by hiring her to "blog" your conference, speak at your club or write articles for your publication (or by clicking on the Paypal button below). How Logical Are You?

Topic Categories: Your Inner Child
Posted on: September 25, 2006 11:59 AM, by "GrrlScientist"

As I said, I want to remind you, dear readers, that I am still here, and still missing you all, so I dug up a quiz that you might enjoy. This quiz presumably determines how logical you are. The good thing about this quiz is that I have some evidence that all the drugs I've had to take recently haven't permanently impaired my cognitive functioning, at least.

But wow, the illustration that accompanies the quiz sure could be improved. What do you all think?

You Are Incredibly Logical
Move over Spock - you're the new master of logic You think rationally, clearly, and quickly. A seasoned problem solver, your mind is like a computer!

What did you think of the questions and did you spot any mistakes in the answers? If you could add a question and a series of answers to choose from, what would it be?

Same thing here, another Spock twin. And I agree with you, what an ugly illustration.

I scored the same. I didn't like the quiz -> head question; I am very lazy to count and I don't know why it's related to logic. Question 5 is nice as it makes you think about the real world, but question 8 asks you not to.

Questions six and eight were not well done. No conclusion could be drawn from the given information. Further, question eight was flawed in that real world knowledge contradicted what was being asked. Could have just written the question as, "Some As are not Bs. All Bs are Cs. Given that these are true, what else also must be true?" I cannot find anything wrong with the answers however. I'm not that logical. A Spock Jr. perhaps?

The feeling of victory sweeping, of achievement, of superiority... I'm afflicted with incredible pride.
