Walking through the town square made me feel transported back in time to the middle ages, a time that I view as being very mysterious. Except for the modern clothing, it seems that this scene has taken place a million times or more just as you see it here.

More like this

Really hasn't changed since I was there 15 years ago. I'd go back in a heart beat. I particularly loved the island of Hiumaa.

i never went to the island of hiumaa -- do you have pics of this? if so, are you willing to share, or to send a link to your photoessay for my readers to enjoy?

Hmmm, well, I'll have to dig around. Didn't have digital in those days. If I find some nice ones I can certainly scan them in.

if market day has been every day then about 365 x per year so c 1000 per 3 years, so c 10000 per 30 years, so c 100,000 per 300 years so c 1m in every 3,000 years - so you'd have to go back to about 1000 BC

The first traces of human settlement found in Tallinn's city center by archeologists are about 5000 years old. Comb ceramic pottery found on the site dates to about 3000 BC, so allowing for the introduction of the sunday trading laws and days when rape and pillage were the order of the day rather than peaceful exchange of commodities, etc etc etc youre probably about right
