Painting the Golden Pheasant

This is yet another fascinating stop-motion video of the creation of artist Carel Brest van Kempen's painting, Golden Pheasant, Chrysolophus pictus. Contrary to popular belief, Golden Pheasants do not naturally occur in pens and aviaries, but in rugged mountain woodlands in western China.

Carel Brest van Kempen published a stunning book, Rigor Vitae: Life Unyielding [my review] and writes the art blog that goes by the same name, that might be of interest to you.

Hey Grrl, I guess there must be something happening at your end today- I can't load the "Today's Mystery Bird" page at all (I can see it on the "Latest Entries" page but am unable to access the specific page) and here on this one, there doesn't seem to be a video link.

I can load any of the posts from yesterday or before, including "Mystery Bird's" and other artwork by Carel BvK, just not today's.

I tried from different computers and through different servers, so I don't think it's me...
