This image makes me wonder about the bricks that were (obviously!) added much later to this lovely rock wall: why were they added? Who added them and why? What did those people think about what they saw while they were adding these bricks?

Ah, that's the sad story of Prince Jaakko and how he got a couple of great doors dirty cheap, and only then wondered if they would fit the doorways.

And what the people thought seeing the brick-laying was, "Oh, it's royalty at work, again."

Here's the explanation from my Finnish-American friend. I'm afraid it's not a happy story:

It was a very over populated place during the Finnish civil war. A lot of people died there.
It's a fortress.
