ScienceBlogs Book Club: Inside the Outbreaks

Respectful Insolence

"A statement of fact cannot be insolent." The miscellaneous ramblings of a surgeon/scientist on medicine, quackery, science, pseudoscience, history, and pseudohistory (and anything else that interests him)

Who (or what) is Orac?

orac.jpg Orac is the nom de blog of a (not so) humble pseudonymous surgeon/scientist with an ego just big enough to delude himself that someone, somewhere might actually give a rodent's posterior about his miscellaneous verbal meanderings, but just barely small enough to admit to himself that few will. (Continued here, along with a DISCLAIMER that you should read before reading any medical discussions here.)

Orac's old Blog is archived at Archived Insolence.

Has anyone ever seen a worse music video?

Out of Finland, comes a video so mind-bogglingly, surrealistically bad that it's oddly entertaining. I couldn't help but watch it with utter fascination at the amount of effort that must have gone into something so strange.

Enjoy...I think.

Oh, and if you think that's bad, may I present this year's Finnish entry to the Eurovision Song Contest. No kidding - Finnish monster-rock wannabes singing a song with some truly diabolical lyrics. Should be entertaining.

Oh, they did it on purpose. This is nothing compared to Serbian "turbo-folk" videos (and lyrics). We used to have a weekly show with a Top Ten list of the worst videos of the week and they were all worse than this one.

Yes, I believe I have. Proof there is no god:

Which is worse? You decide!

The Finnish video is so bad, that it's great. It's hard to take your eyes off of it. It looks like something from the 1980's - does anyone know what the name of the group is?

While I was in Norway several years ago, I watched MTV Europe. Horrible. Mostly bad Euro-techno-pop-disco music with ridiculous English lyrics, that no English-speaking person would ever utter.

I've also watched TV in Belgium, and caught a Flemish hip-hop contest on TV, complete with cute blond Flemish maids in cornrows and nose rings, rapping in Flemish. You go, Girl! It was awful and mesmerizing at the same time.

Did anyone catch the opening ceremonies for the Torino Olympics? They played 1970's American disco music as the national teams marched in the stadium. All this from the land of Verdi, Vivaldi and Puccini.

No, the best worst music video of all time is the amazing Flash animation Hatten är din.

(And if you don't know about the infamous Hat you can find an explanation on Wikipedia.)

Nah, it's pretty standard late-70's/early 80's stuff.

Aaaccckk! I need brain-bleach!

Orac, what happened to the Hippocratic oath here? You need to put a stronger warning on this! This stuff is harmful.

"I vill nevah breeng you any sorrow"

That's Danny & Armi, reigning couple of Finnish disco and schlager ca. 1978.

Thanks for the link, now forgive the marginal comment (figurative and literal).

The college site featured some females in various stages of deshabile in the right hand column. This in and of itself isn't a problem, except that when the music started playing, my 8 and 5-year olds ran over to watch. I deftly reduced the size of the screen.

The boys quite liked the song and couldn't figure out why I burst out laughing at several stages.

best,

Flea
