Respectful Insolence

It’s just that sort of day

Today is just the kind of day when these lyrics speak to me:

And you run, you run to catch up with the sun, but it’s sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you’re older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I’d something more to say

Bought my first cane today! Woo-hoo! Gonna walk on three legs in the evening, yessir!

I hear you, man. That was the song that sold me on the Floyd, and is still one of my favourite lyrics of all time. This fact is usually very irritating to people who are aware that I’m not even thirty yet…

    “…Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells.”

… really? I’ve loved that song since I was … probably about 9 or so.

Sighhh, Floyd, O how I wish they would tour again…

I recommend the Pulse DVD for those who would like to hear those lyrics sung live…
