Orac is the nom de blog of a (not so) humble pseudonymous surgeon/scientist with an ego just big enough to delude himself that someone, somewhere might actually give a rodent's posterior about his miscellaneous verbal meanderings, but just barely small enough to admit to himself that few will. Check out the Carnival of Healing (which should be called the Carnival of Woo, if this recent edition is any example).
They're looking for hosts, you know. Perhaps I should volunteer. Or maybe one of my favorite skeptical bloggers would volunteer.
I know, it's an evil thought.

Hey, a woo once hosted the Skeptic's circle, so anything's possible (the Skeptico imposter was invited to stand in for the real one I think; you probably remember this one better than I do).

I'm beginning to really hate the way perfectly fine words are being co-opted by groups with an agenda, so that they become 'codes' for something else. "Healing" is one such word. So's the phrase "family values." I would add "wellness," except that -- to be fair -- I think they came up with that one themselves.
And I'm also starting to assume upfront that any health-connected event labeled specifically for women ("Women's Health Expo," Women's Wellness Workshops") is probably filled with woo and nonsense, with perhaps a few valuable speakers and crumbs of good information stuck in here and there. Which is a shame.

maybe i am the evil one.. but i would love to see it. i think a lot could be learned without creating an all out woo-war.. it would be good to see bloggers that don't subscribe to the notion of checking your critical thinking at the door, (as so many of us from the land of woo do..) step up and ask the tough questions.. i think us woo-ites might learn something about the difference between scientific fact and anecdotal evidence.. what is the definition of woo anyway?
