ScienceBlogs Book Club: Inside the Outbreaks

Respectful Insolence

"A statement of fact cannot be insolent." The miscellaneous ramblings of a surgeon/scientist on medicine, quackery, science, pseudoscience, history, and pseudohistory (and anything else that interests him)

Who (or what) is Orac?

orac.jpg Orac is the nom de blog of a (not so) humble pseudonymous surgeon/scientist with an ego just big enough to delude himself that someone, somewhere might actually give a rodent's posterior about his miscellaneous verbal meanderings, but just barely small enough to admit to himself that few will. (Continued here, along with a DISCLAIMER that you should read before reading any medical discussions here.)

Orac's old Blog is archived at Archived Insolence.

Merry Christmas! And sock it to the holidays!

To wish you happy holidays, here's a perfect carol to sum up the pile of crap that was the latter half of 2008:

I had never heard of the Loomis Agency before, but it must not be doing too bad if it has the excess money to produce this. Either that, or its workers don't have anything better to do in the downturn. Still, it's pretty cool.

In a more traditional vein:

I know, I know, I posted it last year. But I don't care. I love that video. David Bowie and Bing Crosby sound so good together.

Heh. My favorite part of that Crosby/Bowie thing was the fact that Bowie wasn't supposed to sing, originally. Crosby didn't want anyone else in the spotlight; Bowie was apparently just supposed to stand there and watch. One clash of egos later, we have this awesome duet.

Anyway, best to you and yours, Orac.

David Bowie and Bing Crosby, I remember hogging the TV to see this one when it first aired.

I'm definitely more of a Bowie than Bing fan, but it was sweet to see the cross of generations on a christmas special. :)

Cool. I hadn't seen the Crosby/Bowie video in ages. Thanks for sharing!
