Orac or any of his people dont jump on me I just want to ask a couple questions.

First the Smile data survey usually comes in February but they didnt make it public this year until a reporter from a local news station filed 2 FOIA requests to release the survey. The data showed that Portland improved over 10% from '07 and they didn't calculate the difference between fluoridated counties and non-fluoridated counties. But the local news station did the calculationss and it was nearly the same for non and fluoridated schools and Portland was lower then any other county. So if fluoride was that good wouldn't their be a big difference and why was Portland lower then fluoridated areas? Why would it take so many FOIA requests to get them to release the data? Its logical to think that they didn't want this to get out before the vote.

http://www.katu.com/news/problemsolver/Before-you-vote-Fluoride-and-kids-teeth---what-does-the-data-show-204717991.html

And second the city council had secret closed door meetings with lobby groups then passed a resolution approving water fluoridation. Why the closed door secret meetings and not a public discussion? Reminds one of the secret closed door meetings in the corrupt scum in Washington.

Wheres the science in that? If the science was so conclusive then there wouldnt be a need for secret meetings and agencies withholding their own studies until someone actually filed 3 FOIA requests to release it.

If there was 1 study done that showed fluoride associated with lower IQ in children why would you even want that stuff anywhere near the children? In fact there has been 36 studies that have shown fluoride reduces IQ in children. BUT NO AGENCY IN THE U.S. HAS DONE A FOLLOW UP TO THOSE 36 IQ STUDIES. Why not prove them wrong? Why are you willing to risk a child's brain for slightly improved teeth?

Please no personal attacks or insults I am just trying to have an open discussion on this subject. Thank you for your time I know you are busy man.

I wonder if the Mormons records might offer similar possibilities, as they are attempting to posthumously baptize as many people as possible before Judgment Day (or whatever they call it), so they have extraordinarily extensive genealogical records.

Extensive, yes. Accurate, not so much.

In my, admittedly limited, investigation of my family tree, I've found that any information you get from the Mormons is not to be used as an authorative source. They will accept and publish anything, with no verification, and, once accepted, there is no way to correct the info if it is found to be in error.

You can use their info to find clues on what to look for, but I wouldn't make any claims based on their info, and I for sure wouldn't do any science.

I guess they figure that somewhere they have the truth, and that's close enough. Maybe "pray for 'em all, and let God sort 'em out".

Yeah. I actually had seen them in the store before, and knew beforehand that I was probably going to be advised to use them. I mentally told myself to say "I'm not in the mood for burning my hair", but also knew that I would be a wuss. I did end up giving the salesperson (not the actual chemist thank goodness) a pretty annoyed look and told them a curt "no, I'm not trying that"...

Sigh... it's unfortunate that this is part of a chain of chemists and that to find one that's not part of the chain in my area is extremely difficult. It'd be nice to find an alternative ;)

They say they were wrong fro bleeding so many patients but I have never read an apology.

What now? You want an apology from doctors several hundred years ago for doing something they genuinely thought to work - and abandoned it once they realised they were wrong?

Healing means getting the bad stuff out that was placed inside my body intentionally by the state and the doctors.

The "state" forced you to take medical treatments you didn't want? Which state? Why?

And this beautiful actress is to be applauded as “courageous” for taking healthy breast tissue and inserting a toxic substitute?

Because her only value is as a well-known beauty, right?

Here prominent tattoos are toxic and more likely to present as a threat to her health…her healthy tissue is not a threat.

How are tattoos toxic? I know many tattooed people and none of them are unusually sick.

... On a side note, does anyone have a medical bingo card for fallacies and tropes? These comments really do get dull after a while.

A search for his name in quotes, plus the word mercury turns up some... er, interesting comments and links.

Whoo, I got quoted on Nigel's blog. I'm famous!

I wonder if he understands what "flounce" means.

Of course, he doesn't know what libel is, because he also just posted quotes of it all over his own blog. If it's libel, you'd think he'd go out of his way *not to quote it* lest it further damage his reputation.

Despite having provided evidence to refute the claim, I decided to ignore that and focus on their use of ad hominems, because when someone calls me names it totally prevents me from posting evidence.

Fixed it for him.

I commented on his blog, we'll see if it's published...

There are also issues about how useful the information is for everyone else. It is like trying to generalise from C3H/HeJ mice to the entire murine species.

PGP,

I should mention that the app was only possible because Iceland’s also got the most complete genetic documentation of any country. They have records of family trees stretching back hundreds-at least- of years.

That opens up possibilities of some interesting genetic research. I wonder if the Mormons records might offer similar possibilities, as they are attempting to posthumously baptize as many people as possible before Judgment Day (or whatever they call it), so they have extraordinarily extensive genealogical records.

Just how is this magic fluoride gonna pass though you and go only to your teeth, not bones, not brain, not anywhere else, just the teeth?!?

It isn't, but it really doesn't matter, as the dose is so low in the case of fluoridation. Fluoride in water is the most natural thing in the world, though nature isn't as careful as municipal water authorities, and fluoride is present in tea at even higher concentrations.

nz sceptic,

At first I thought it yet another example of poor headline writing but they also err in the body of the article.

You’d hope that the ‘expert’ they intended to refer to was Dr Elizabeth Wilson, but the opening paragraph uses the plural ‘experts’ and the first person’s words the reader encounters are Hilary Butler’s, placed alongside ‘health professionals’, — “But the idea is raising eyebrows with health professionals in New Zealand, including the founder of the Immunisation Awareness Society.”

That has them saying she is a health professional in the body of the article, which she certainly isn’t.

The article looks to be essentially a transcript of the Breakfast interview.

Colin...seriously? Did you ever take a biology class and pass it? How does the Fluoride naturally in food and water find it's way to the teeth. How does Iron make to the hemoglobin. How does Phosphorus find it way to the DNA. The same way it always has. By the magic of Leprechauns of course!

Following that rational link to Doreen Virtue, I see where Jenny got her Warrior routine..

Occasionally, I would attend New Agey lectures/ demonstrations where I found out that I have a lovely aura ( blue /lavender IIRC). One of my cohorts and I are incredibly adept at containing our laughter despite the hilariously far-fetched idiocy we've encountered- e.g. crystal skulls programmed by aliens used in tribal ritual.

More recently, it appears that New Age nonsense is apportioned to pre-registered participants at seminars and workshops at higher prices/ for longer time periods than we're willing to spend- in other words, to discourage sceptics and encourage true believers.

I notice that Autism One has a warning about refusing admittance to certain people, not allowing recording etc.
Also I haven't seen any videos or streams yet.

They won't be able to restrain themselves and I'm sure we'll see plenty eventually.
