Politics and Bioethics Conference this Summer in Albany

I am psyched to be among the list of speakers for a great upcoming conference on "Bioethics & Politics: The Future of Bioethics in a Divided Democracy," sponsored by the Alden March Bioethics Institute of Albany Medical College. Other confirmed speakers include:

Nigel Cameron

Arthur Caplan

Alta Charo

Eric Cohen

Richard Doerflinger

James Fossett

Jeffrey Kahn

Glenn McGee

David Magnus

Jonathan Moreno

Alicia Ouellette

Sean Philpott

William F. May

Wesley Smith

Bonnie Steinbock

Gerald and Paul Root Wolpe

Laurie Zoloth

You will note that the event represents both the left and the right. It's this July 13-14. More information here.

First off, congratulations, this certainly reflects your accomplishment and stature in the realm of science and politics. Second off, though, I'm a bit confused about the event "representing both the left and the right." On a topic such as this, I'm not sure how those conventional political descriptors apply, but I did note one, and possibly three, individuals that I might consider less as serious academic/scholastic contributors and more as advocacy/preset agenda/public-relations-via-think-tank types. I could be oversensitized, but this, to me, detracts from the purpose of the event, in other words, I'm concerned that there's some kowtowing in order to achieve that notorious "balance."
