Morning glory OR Combretum (can't tell them apart at this scale)

Cactus?

Invasive weed?

Winged ant?

Feathers probably from a seagull.

I've seen the green long horn grasshopper in Venezuela. The cactus is a Melocactus with a cephalum. The grass is a sandbur like we have here in Texas. The butterfly is a zebra, maybe. I've seen them before.

Good to see a sandbur. People who don't know sandburs, don't know sandburs. It hurts just to look at it. rb

It hurts just to look at it.

I can attest to that. Though not nearly as bad as my unfortunate encounter years ago with diadema antillarum in Bonaire... that one required minor surgery.

I once had a Green Long Horned Grasshopper called Skippy as a pet. I found him with a broken leg and ants gnawing at the wound. I kept him for a week or so, subsisting on fresh produce. Then he died. He was buried under a cherry blossom tree and marked with a plastic sign.

Hmm...maybe I should come back with "wildlife" from my trip to New Orleans for Xmas and do a similar post....

Chris,
Um . . . wildlife in New Orelans . . . Mardi Gras hasn't officially started yet . . . but the Quarter is still good for some . . . unless you are going to Boutte or Cut Off, then you might get something completely different . . .
