The Egyptian goddess Isis was celebrated as the ideal wife and mother. The blogger known as Dr. Isis has some fancy-sounding degrees and is a physiologist at a major research university working on some terribly impressive stuff. She blogs about balancing her research career with the demands of raising small children, how to succeed as a woman in academia, and anything else she finds interesting. Also, she blogs about shoes. In fact, she blogs a lot about shoes.

...And behold, he raised the motherfucking Jameson on high as Isis bedecked her feet in glory, and the masses were sated. -- The Holy Gospel According to PhysioProf

Afternoon Britney Fix....

Posted on: November 24, 2008 3:34 PM, by Isis the Scientist

You may remember this morning I was trying to break myself away from Britney's new album long enough to behave like an adult. Well, sure enough it's 3:30pm and this stuff has been spinning all day. I suspect the woman in the office next door may be plotting my demise.

Do you need a fix too?

Dr. Isis, once again you prove how much cooler you are than I am.

I dig some Britney every now and again, but I do it with headphones on and practically with a blanket over my head so that none of my music snob friends know I have pop music in my iTunes library.

If I get caught, I give the innocent, incredulous look and say, "How the hell did this stuff get into my mp3s??"

To listen to Britney, I had to pause VLC which was playing a copy of the June 7 Radio 1 Essential Mix, featuring DJ Q. Pretty much identical music except that DJ Q's mix is at least 20-50% faster beats, making Britney's piece un-dance-ably, slooowly depressing by comparison. Despite that, the similarity is remarkable.
