The Egyptian goddess Isis was celebrated as the ideal wife and mother. The blogger known as Dr. Isis has some fancy-sounding degrees and is a physiologist at a major research university working on some terribly impressive stuff. She blogs about balancing her research career with the demands of raising small children, how to succeed as a woman in academia, and anything else she finds interesting. Also, she blogs about shoes. In fact, she blogs a lot about shoes.

...And behold, he raised the motherfucking Jameson on high as Isis bedecked her feet in glory, and the masses were sated. -- The Holy Gospel According to PhysioProf

Blogrolling, Domestic Goddess Style...

Posted on: November 29, 2008 8:10 PM, by Isis the Scientist

Dr. Isis came home from the land of her rearing with a suitcase of her favorite foods a la Grandmom Isis. One of the items in the suitcase is a box of (formerly) Goldenberg Peanut Chews. At first I didn't believe my dear, sweet grandmother that these were the real deal. The peanut chew was apparently bought by Just Born (makers of the marshmallow peep) in 2003. However, one bite convinced me that these were, indeed, the peanut chews of my youth.

When I returned home to MRU, I googled "Peanut Chew" in an attempt to figure out what the heck had happened to Goldenberg and his buddies. I found the answer over on a delicious and informative blog -- CandyBlog. I have since spent the last several hours looking at delicious, delicious post after post.

Blogroll it, ladies (and gentlemen). I can see myself returning to this blog often for my chocolate fix.

Squirrel nut zippers were my favorite childhood candy. I used to save up my pennies for the Five and Dime store.

Worked in center city philly delivering stuff for a law firm. I's start many deliveries with a trip to the smoke shop on the ground floor of their building to pick up a package of chews for the trip. Seven pieces could be made to last a good portion of the run if I was careful. Now, like ...tom..., my insulin pump doesn't really have a setting high enough for them now. :-)

I'm just not going to go there - now anyways. The eleven month old on my lap knows candy - knows it well. And I just had to rip apart my laptop to clean the accumulated drool, so we are trying not to purposely induce the flow.....
