The Egyptian goddess Isis was celebrated as the ideal wife and mother. The blogger known as Dr. Isis has some fancy-sounding degrees and is a physiologist at a major research university working on some terribly impressive stuff. She blogs about balancing her research career with the demands of raising small children, how to succeed as a woman in academia, and anything else she finds interesting. Also, she blogs about shoes. In fact, she blogs a lot about shoes.

...And behold, he raised the motherfucking Jameson on high as Isis bedecked her feet in glory, and the masses were sated. -- The Holy Gospel According to PhysioProf

Late Night Change of Plans...

Posted on: November 26, 2008 10:22 PM, by Isis the Scientist

Dr. Isis was planning to snuggle up after dinner and blog about something sciencey. Then she clicked over to CNN and saw the events in India.  So tonight, rather than snark about science, she's just going to cuddle with the Isis children and keep the people of Mumbai in her prayers.

To whom are you praying and why?

Those events are horrifying. As income inequality around the globe increases during the global economic depression we are entering, such events are, unfortunately, likely to become more frequent.

Although some of you don't believe in a higher power, Dr.Isis does and is keeping the thoughts of those that are suffering b/c of cruel act in those prayers. This isn't the post for sarcasm or discussions on the validity of those prayers. If you have no empathy do display for innocent people. Shut the fuck up.

Thank you, ScientistMother. Well said.

ScientistMother,

The monsters who commit such atrocities are praying and believing that they are fulfilling this very higher power's wishes. Questioning unfounded beliefs has nothing to do with a lack of empathy or sarcasm.

"The monsters who commit such atrocities are praying and believing that they are fulfilling this very higher power's wishes."

Actually, you don't really know what the monsteres are thinking, believing (praying or otherwise) - even if they have made one of those terrorist-type announcements, now do you?

Woops! Actually, that would be "monsters." And how do you do those indented quotes?

Use the "blockquote" tag.

Silver Fox,`

Where I come from, although you don't necessarily know what these monsters are thinking (or what anyone else does), you hear and see what they are preaching, to whom they are praying and who are the "infidles" they attempt to kill in the name of their Allah.

It seems to me that you are the one who don't really know much about religious terrorism and terrorists who always plotting to kill you because of your ethnicity.

S. Rivlin, please. There's plenty other blogs where the argument you seem to want happens several times a day. This thread is not for that argument, it's for concern about these horrible events and sympathy for those affected.

MissPrism, with all due respect, allow me to disagree.
