The Egyptian goddess Isis was celebrated as the ideal wife and mother. The blogger known as Dr. Isis has some fancy-sounding degrees and is a physiologist at a major research university working on some terribly impressive stuff. She blogs about balancing her research career with the demands of raising small children, how to succeed as a woman in academia, and anything else she finds interesting. Also, she blogs about shoes. In fact, she blogs a lot about shoes.

...And behold, he raised the motherfucking Jameson on high as Isis bedecked her feet in glory, and the masses were sated. -- The Holy Gospel According to PhysioProf

PhysioProf's Meme...

Posted on: November 15, 2008 11:17 PM, by Isis the Scientist

Dr. Isis has been lying on the couch all day recovering from what she can only describe as the worst food poisoning of her life.  This is her reward for taking a visiting prospective student out to lunch on Friday.  Although she is recovering, she still lacks the ability to raise her head without feeling dizzy.  This afternoon, just as Dr. Isis thought she might be on the road to recovery, she opened her Gmail and found an email from PhysioProf alerting the domestic and laboratory goddess that she had been tagged in a meme and suddenly felt ill again.  Dr. Isis replied, "ugh" and was scolded by our foul-mouthed comrade for not being a good citizen of the blogosphere.  Because Isis and PhysioProf seem to be on good terms lately (and will present their final entries in the recipe war next week), I will oblige him.  Here are some groups of 5 things you may not know about your favorite blogging deity:

5 Things I was Doing 10 years Ago:
(1) Dropping out of college and making my father cry
(2) Dating the wrong boy
(3) Thinking I had the world all figured out
(4) Starting the job that led to becoming Dr. Isis
(5) Having no idea where my life was going

5 Things On My To-Do List Today:
(1) Vomit
(2) Receive some IV saline
(3) Try not to vomit
(4) Remove IV
(5) Try not to vomit

5 Snacks I Love:
(1) Hot popcorn
(2) French bread with marscapone and olive tapenade
(3) Golden Grahams cereal
(4) Brie, raspberries, and crackers
(5) Oreos

5 Things I Would Do If I Were A Millionaire:
(1) Put most of it aside for my children
(2) Leave 10% to my church
(3) Get a facial, a massage, and then buy 5-7 pairs of Naughty Monkey shoes
(4) See above
(5) Ditto

5 Places I've Lived:
(1) In a two bedroom home with my siblings, my parents, and my uncle, in a bedroom with a single bed that my siblings and I took turns sleeping in
(2) Next door to a woman who turned tricks and sold crack
(3) In the first beautiful home I bought with my husband in the town where our oldest child was born
(4) In our home at MRU that is still largely empty because I don't have enough stuff to furnish it
(5) In Los Angeles

5 Jobs I've Had:
(1) Lifeguard
(2) Paramedic
(3) Scientist
(4)Wife/Mother
(5) Science Blogger

I think I may be late to the party but, if I'm not,  I'll tag ScienceWoman, Academic Crossroads, Abel Pharmboy, River Tam, and ScienceMama

Video 1: One of the top five songs on Dr. Isis's iPod.  This song makes her thing about a particular boy that she has a total crush on.

Dr. Isis,

Didn't anyone ever tell you that you shouldn't eat cookie dough because it has raw eggs in it?

Feel better.
