...from the domestic and laboratory goddess to herself.
My most darling Dr. Isis,
I know that you have been busy lately, but it has come to my attention that there are some things we need to address:
- Your now-turned-mousey-brown auburn hair is no long cute, especially when accented by starkly blonde roots. This, in combination with the unkept eyebrows and the scratches on your face and nose left by Baby Isis are making you look like you're losing the war. Hard.
- You have not been to the gym since Thanksgiving. I don't care that you're busy. The lack of exercise is making you lose your junk much more frequently than usual and your jeans are tight. Get off your ass.
- I hereby put a moratorium on living off lab snacks. I know you're trying to crank out some big projects, but muffins, M&Ms and pretzel twists are not substitutes for a chicken salad and an apple.
Figure 1: Dr. Isis needs to regroup and redeploy.
You know better, Isis. You really do.
All my best,
Dr. Isis

I'm reading this as I eat a coffee crisp bar for lunch....

I feel like everyone in my house should have been CCed on this ;)
I do have some exercise slotted for this evening, though, and I had a rather healthy lunch, so I've just got to build/maintain this momentum...through Christmas.

Isis, you're ruining my afternoon chocolate break with guilt!

Thanks for this, Isis. It kept me from sneaking off to the vending machine for some....well, that is better left unsaid.

Thanks Isis
I was about to get breakfast out of the vending machine. You saved me.
Back to writing that paper...

a bagel and cream cheese are the perfect lab lunch for me. cheap, takes a minute to toast, and filling enough to get me through the rest of my day.
it also helps to be too broke for vending machine fare!

#s 2 and 3, all the way. must get on that. due to the lack of social clickage in my first sem of grad school, however, my hair and eyebrows are doing very well.
i started reading a while ago, and i really enjoy the blog and your blogging style! ... even though the only shoes i have now are flip flops and sneakers :)

Yeah, I'm with you on the hair thing. I am WAY overdue for a haircut. I was also in the jungle-brow camp until this morning when I went crazy with the tweezers...

My solutions:
1. Book your hair appointments every 4 weeks for a year in advance. And put up a magnifying mirror so those errant brow hairs are impossible to avoid.
2. Gym? What gym? I think I forgot how to get there. Can't help with this one.
3. Move your desk to the lab where you can't bring food. Then you can't sort your candy by color... the best you can do is hide them in a drawer and eat them by stealth.

Oh, my dearest Grumpy, my desk and office are upstairs from the lab and yet I still frequently come down to raid the snack I and others bring for the students. This is increasing my snack buying budget by quite a bit.

I'm learning about Affirmations, so here goes for you:
I, Dr. Isis, will get my hair and eyebrows done because it makes me feel better, not just because it keeps up appearances.
I, Dr. Isis, enjoy exercise because it makes me feel good.
I, Dr. Isis, will bring healthy snacks to munch on while I crank out kick-ass projects.
How was that? Now you just have to repeat them to yourself for 30 minutes a day, and voila! Problem solved. Or so they say.

Sounds all too familiar..... and holidays are coming up (yikes!)

Who IS that woman in the picture? She is gorgeous. At first it looked like Michelle Rodriguez.
Anyway. I find that keeping some cans of soup in my desk is good for when I find myself unexpectedly in need of a meal and no time to leave the lab. Depending on what kind you get, it is much healthier than snacks, and gives you much-needed protein.
