The Egyptian goddess Isis was celebrated as the ideal wife and mother. The blogger known as Dr. Isis has some fancy-sounding degrees and is a physiologist at a major research university working on some terribly impressive stuff. She blogs about balancing her research career with the demands of raising small children, how to succeed as a woman in academia, and anything else she finds interesting. Also, she blogs about shoes. In fact, she blogs a lot about shoes.

...And behold, he raised the motherfucking Jameson on high as Isis bedecked her feet in glory, and the masses were sated. -- The Holy Gospel According to PhysioProf

And...I'm...Spent!

Posted on: December 20, 2008 12:13 AM, by Isis the Scientist

The semester is finally over for the domestic and laboratory goddess. The talk was given and tears were held at bay, the Isis brood is tucked in bed, and I am snuggled up on the couch reading Cracked, watching The Lost World, and browsing Urban Decay on Sephora.

Also, I have been watching videos of R2-D2s in a chorus line.

Video 1: R2-D2s are even better than the Rockettes.

The Isis family leaves for vacation on Sunday.  I intend to spend seven glorious days hiking, eating like a temple, running, and playing with the Isis kids.  Tomorrow I plan to do nothing but sleep until I wake up, clean my kitchen, keep a date with my favorite waxing lady, visit Sephora, and play with the Isis kids. My adrenals are already beginning to return to normal.

In blog related news, go check out the American Physiological Society's Facebook page. Dr. Isis received a very nice shout out from APS executive director Dr. Martin Frank.  And, while you're at it, become a member of Dr. Isis's favorite scientific society and she'll see you at Experimental Biology.

Ah! Hiking and running! Warm, sunny, locale! Mountains too!! I am green, GREEN with jealousy.

From the hints, would it be near the mark to assume this is somewhere in the spectacularly beautiful Southwest? SoCal, AZ, or NM? Or even Mexico? I will be eagerly waiting for the domestic, laboratory and mountain trail goddess to return and lay down some gorgeous photographic hotness.

...

"... eating like a temple, "

Ya know, or probably not, I enjoy 'collecting' odd phrases that I find on the tubes. I thought perhaps I had missed an odd idiom with that thought, but no. Google finds only your usage of it.

I am tempted to think you meant 'temple goddess' ... but I try not to put words in others mouths, so...

Regardless, sounds like fun. Enjoy your family- and self-centered downtime. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Dr. Isis,
Thanks for the plug for APS and the Experimental Biology meeting. I hope to see you in New Orleans in April.

Happy Holidays to you and your family as well as all of your readers.

Marty
