Dr. Isis did manage to get totally smoking hot in 14 minutes and she and Mr. Isis had a wonderful time at their concert. They sealed the deal on day six of the seven days of sexcapades while at the concert.
And now, because I have been awake for 40 hours, I am going to bed. But, I'm going to bed a happy woman. Dr. Isis is open to suggestions for the closing ceremonies to be held tomorrow, on day seven.
Figure 1: YAY!

You did what? We're going to need a few more details than that I'm afraid.

Not to be a voyeur but this Academic is also quite shocked and is with Professor in Training.... At the concert?

Yes, more details on the concert shenanigans please...

. . .ditto details. If only to nourish the collective voyeuristic needs of your readers.

Why the hell are all of you non-west-coasters on the internets at this hour? And more importantly at the concert?? Like in the car at the concert or public washroom at the concert?

Dear Dr. Isis.
I am very glad that you have been successful in your sexcapades. Sneakily, I am hoping that you are in a good enough mood to answer my not-quite related question.
I am a 4th year B.Sc. Biology undergrad student in Cold Country north of the US. I am looking for an internship at a US West Coast university for this summer. I have a decent CV with several scientific research jobs in respected labs (for an undergrad).
However, when I've e-mailed PI's at universities, they told me that they have no money to take on a short-term international student. Is this true, or a nice way of refusing me personally? Is there very little opportunity for summer international students to work in US labs?
I would appreciate any tips or info you may be able to offer.
As a bribe, I offer a very expensive pair of shoes from Miu Miu (http://www.net-a-porter.com/product/33519). When I grow up and become Dr. Labness, I want to own them! For now, I drool...
Thank you!

We should at least get to hear whose concert was the setting. I'm betting not the Jonas Brothers?

Is Kenny G touring at the moment? Or what about Barry Manilow?

sorry, but due to your semi-biologically imposed break, you are only day 1. you have 6 more to go. :)

Hmmm... does get one to thinking. Possibly this could be a great inspiration!

Bitch!
You people are out of control. Look, I don't want to give too many graphic details because Science Blogs is a respectable kind of joint, but I'll tell you that if you were at the concert I was at last night and during the intermission you went down to the first floor and into the conveniently unlocked coat closet next to the ticket offices, you might have gotten your eye poked out.
The only downside is that I can't find my underwear. I'm only hoping they didn't end up in some poor sap's coat.
Mr. Isis and I clearly do not get out enough.

Dear future-Dr. Labness,
It is hard for me to offer you very concrete advice without knowing in more detail the field that you are in or how you are approaching these PIs. I will tell you that, yes, the funding situation for some PIs is tight. Many people enjoy having undergrads in the lab and enjoy teaching and mentoring them, but they can also be expensive compared to a graduate student or postdoc in terms of the cost/productivity ratio. You may have contacted PIs who are not able to make the investment right now. Especially if you need to do this as a paid opportunity.
Can the PIs you worked for before make any recommendations as to people you might contact and can they help you be sure you are approaching these other PIs appropriately (again, I don't know if you are or not)? Also, is your heart set on the west coast or would you go elsewhere for the summer? Would you be willing to do something in the more general discipline you're interested in but outside of your very specific interests to get an opportunity? I am a mammalian/human physiologist and my first research experience was in the lab of a woman who studied insects. It was still really cool, I met amazing people, and she was a great advocate for me later on. I suppose the best advice I have for you, sweet Labness, is to keep asking. Eventually even a blond squirrel will find a nut.
However, Miu Miu or not, I am not on board with those shoes, Labness. I'll forgive you because you are an undergrad, but what is up with the funny straps on top? They remind me of the Back to the Future car. Perhaps with a pair of jeans, I could get on board, but I would have to see them rocked in a totally amazing way to truly get on board.
All my best,
Isis

ok, you made my day by describing your adventure last night, all i have to say is my coffee this morning was all over the place! score for timing :)
ryc: yes there is a dean and a chair, however, historically those position at old uni have been stepping stones for greater things. there hasn't been any consistency or such. academics like regular people do need some rules or all hell breaks loose. also, in trying to graduate these ladies are understandably worried about the reputation they are already acquiring in their chosen fields as well as securing a post-doc position due to advisor gossip. sadly, it's quite the real possibility that their reputations as scientists have already been tarnished. i know they've been worrying about it.

I'll take that as a friendly compliment, thanks :)

Well . . .it used to have that rep.

I would make some smart-arse comment here ... but that thought has too much of a perv-factor to go there. ...:minism:...

Yes, she does. And, as a woman with 6 children, I assure you she would totally approve of this type of behavior.

Dear Dr. Isis.
I was very happy to hear from you in response to my comment.
I though it best to answer back home at Labness - it would be impolite to use up any more of your comment space. Space that should be devoted to lascivious comments from your readers!
Thank you!
