Not to diminish from our earlier conversations, but Dr. Isis would like to draw your attention to the real revolution going on at ScienceBlogs. ScienceBlogs is becoming a shoe fetish-loving joint and I am as pleased as punch!
First, DrugMonkey starts emailing me pictures of shoes from the Society for Neuroscience meeting.
Then, the ScienceBlogs intern embraces her new Naughty Monkey-wearing identity.
ScienceWoman got in on the act when she posted pictures of her shoes for December's Scientiae.
Then, imagine my surprise when Zuska posted a picture of her shoes!
Last, and certainly not least, Dr. FreeRide got in the mix when she posted a picture of her adorable red suede Mary Janes.
Dr. Isis is waiting on pictures from PhysioProf, DrugMonkey, Abel, and PalMD.
However, as a token of my profound appreciation, I offer you all this bit of hotness to aspire to:

Figure 1: Dr. Isis's smokin' hot 3" Splash marigold pumps, with and without pants. She found them at Burlington Coat Factory just before Thanksgiving.
[UPDATE]: Professor in Training and Cosmic Variance are also in the mix. I think Cosmic Variance may be pwning the Shoe Revolution.
Dr. Virginia Wood over at Wood's Rules is also posting her own version of shoe hotness.

Without pants!?

PP, you should feel welcome to take your picture without pants. However, knowing that you have fessed up to not wearing underwear, I hope you will keep the shot tasteful and below the knee.

Man, that is some serious 'marigold' color.
Maybe I should blog my sneakers . . ..

um...those are butt-ugly shoes. Sorry, dear. Also, they look uncomfortable. You should just throw those out the window.
But I totally agree with you, it's time for the dudes to start posting some shoe pics.

No, Zuska!!!! No!!!!
They are comfortable, I promise! And they are tres cute!!!!!

If you insist. Here's my kind of hot footwear.
Sorry I can't include the black nylon above the footwear right now, but maybe later.

I think we must recognize that in some parts of the English-speaking world the word "pants" means "underwear."
I had a similar problem while reading the Harry Potter books and seeing references to Harry packing his "trainers." I didn't know if young Mr. Potter was still not completely potty-trained (as in "trainning pants", the intermediate item between diapers and children's underwear) or if a self-directed Engorgio charm had misfired and he now had to use a training bra until he could figure out how to reverse it.

I can't figure out how to paste my favorite shoes in here, so I'll give you the link.

As to the marigold number, I have learned that all shoes look like sh-t viewed from above. For a really good shot, get the camera down at ankle level.

There's no way I could ever wear those pumps without breaking an ankle. My contribution to your shoe revolution is here.

Okey, dokey!
Posted by: Comrade PhysioProf | December 28, 2008 1:16 PM
I think we need to get some testosterone in here. Hahaha!!!
Don't mind me--I'm just jealous because all I wear is a ratty outdoors/indoors/formal/informal/for the lab/for the wards pair of shoes stained with blood, sweat, tears and bleach--some from my and some from others' doing--not worthy of posting. ;-)

I'm afraid you gave Comrade the idea to get a "good shot" ...without pants

These are my kind of women's shoes! They make my feet feel invincible.
Posted by: fullerenedream | December 28, 2008 7:56 PM
Dang. Those are some sweet hoofcovers. Are the insoles really worthwhile or do you still need to get ones that provide real support and fit?
I kinda like my Merrels, but finding anything to fit me is always iffy -- New Balance is more likely to do the trick.

*stifles a sob of envy*
Oh, Dr. Isis...I so wish I could actually wear shoes like that...
But alas, sexy shoes in a 10D that will accommodate both my orthotics and my perpetually edemic, arthritic feet are hard to find. Plus, I like a blockier heel.
I do, however, have a pair of patent peep-toe pumps from Avenue that totally ROCK...and they're not bad on the comfiness...

I love my heels. Yet, every time I wear what I consider to be a (semi)fabulous pair, Secretary makes a snarky comment... either in reference to the height of the heel, the delightful (in my opinion) sound they make as they click down the hall, or just the appearance (fan of red she is not).
She implies that it is not professional for me to wear fabulous shoes, and I sometimes wonder. I am but a lowly visiting prof: am I expected to wear clunky flats? (Note: TempCollege Village is a shopping wasteland, but hello! There is zappos.com!)
Posted by: unbalanced reaction | December 29, 2008 12:23 PM
UR, my favorite shoes are 3 1/2" patent red heels and they click with a sound that is only rivaled in beauty by the sound of a heart beat. I think you can imagine where I would tell your secretary to stick her snark.

I totally do not get it why so many women consider uncomfortable and impractical shoes to be 'good'. The shoes pictured do not look like they can be walked in for any distance at all, and the heel twists the foot into an unnatural position and impairs balance. Why something so inefficient, expensive, and painful has been labeled 'sexy' I have no idea.

Zuska: it's time for the dudes to start posting some shoe pics.

Let the record reflect that scicurious totally shares authorship on those shoes you have credited to me.

I'll recommend Rockports for the guys out there. You can usually get them new from E-Bay or any number of shoe sites, although 'retail' prices aren't terrible. I went to an outlet and got these with laces (water proof) and these slip-ons. At the outlet, I got both pairs for about $90 total.

Tom, I meant YOUR ankles, not HERS.
Thanks for the mention, Dr. I. -- I wondered why I was getting so many hits all of a sudden.
