The Egyptian goddess Isis was celebrated as the ideal wife and mother. The blogger known as Dr. Isis has some fancy-sounding degrees and is a physiologist at a major research university working on some terribly impressive stuff. She blogs about balancing her research career with the demands of raising small children, how to succeed as a woman in academia, and anything else she finds interesting. Also, she blogs about shoes. In fact, she blogs a lot about shoes.

...And behold, he raised the motherfucking Jameson on high as Isis bedecked her feet in glory, and the masses were sated. -- The Holy Gospel According to PhysioProf

Dita Von Teese's The Science of Sexy...

Posted on: January 6, 2009 12:19 AM, by Isis the Scientist

Dr. Isis commenter and friend of the blog Eppendork just left this video in the comments section of another post. It is so amazing I thought it warranted its very own post.

Video 1: This is exactly what I imagine it will be like when I make the big breakthrough that gets me the cover of Science and my Nobel. Fantastic shoes and all.

Eppendork, you're amazing and you can work in Isis's lab any day. But, you had better bite your damned tongue next time you think of writing:

Dr Isis - I do believe she out does you on the shoes this time!

Them's fightin' words, little missy.

This may have inspired me to hand out black fans on the day I finally become Dr. Outlier...

And, of course, to wear hot shoes!

Wait a minute. Don't you already have huge boobs?

(You did say "exactly", and I do have to take whatever I can get.)

That video is AWESOME. I want my lab techs over here right now, waving black fans in my direction. If I'm really persuasive, I might even convince the postdoc to wave one...

And I note that she never actually MOVES in those shoes. I count exactly one step, and it's filmed such that she never actually had to TAKE it. All the rest of the dancing is swaying and moving her arms. Of course, it is a bra commercial, so that's what she's showing off. But those shoes, they are too high for the likes of Sci. I prefer to elevate myself a maximum of 5 inches off the ground (I did six once, and I feared for my ankles).

Okay, I find that video a bit disturbing but I really didn't realize it was a bra commercial upon first click.

Um, yeah, well. I don't know whether to puke on the shoes or the bra. That video is so not helpful for women in science.
