I was reminded tonight by my favorite Jameson-swilling wackaballoon of my love of Stevie Ray Vaughn. I leave you with this for tonight and will be back with serious shenanigans tomorrow.

The Egyptian goddess Isis was celebrated as the ideal wife and mother. The blogger known as Dr. Isis has some fancy-sounding degrees and is a physiologist at a major research university working on some terribly impressive stuff. She blogs about balancing her research career with the demands of raising small children, how to succeed as a woman in academia, and anything else she finds interesting. Also, she blogs about shoes. In fact, she blogs a lot about shoes.
...And behold, he raised the motherfucking Jameson on high as Isis bedecked her feet in glory, and the masses were sated. -- The Holy Gospel According to PhysioProf

Dearest Dr. Isis! This is the first music post of yours that I absolutely love! I can understand completely how your ass-shaking jams create a giant ass-shaking by your loyal followers, but I am your loyal follower who also blogs (a lot) about the Grateful Dead... whose jams shake my ass much more than any other music out there. I digress... big hugs and kisses to your Stevie Ray Vaughn post... may he rest in peace.

I bought tickets to see Stevie Ray on two occasions. The first time, in about 1987 or 88, I traveled about 30 miles by bus to reach the National Boxing stadium in Dublin only to find the place empty - he'd overdosed on heroin and canceled the rest of his European tour. The second time was in the early 90s when I was living in London - I'd finally get a chance to see a real guitar hero of mine, live in concert. About two days later I switched on the radio to hear, right at the end of the usual news section, a small story about a helicopter crash that ended the lives of several members of Eric Clapton's band and a relatively obscure (in the UK at least) but talented Texan guitarist.

I love Stevie Ray Vaughn; he had probably the best tone of any guitarist I've ever heard. That said, I prefer the body of work of his brother Jimmy -- but I own more Stevie.

That was a perfect song for me this morning.

I adore Stevie Ray and am so glad to see a song of his here! Everyone should make a pilgrimage to his memorial if they're ever in Austin.
