The Egyptian goddess Isis was celebrated as the ideal wife and mother. The blogger known as Dr. Isis has some fancy-sounding degrees and is a physiologist at a major research university working on some terribly impressive stuff. She blogs about balancing her research career with the demands of raising small children, how to succeed as a woman in academia, and anything else she finds interesting. Also, she blogs about shoes. In fact, she blogs a lot about shoes.

...And behold, he raised the motherfucking Jameson on high as Isis bedecked her feet in glory, and the masses were sated. -- The Holy Gospel According to PhysioProf

Dr. Isis's Shoe of the Week...

Category: Weekly Shoe
Posted on: June 29, 2009 4:03 PM, by Isis the Scientist

I know before we begin that this week's shoe will be controversial. Still, before you all start losing your junk, allow me to explain... I love science. I promise you that I really, really do. That doesn't mean that there aren't days that I don't look out of my window and dream of my escape. In my mind I run off to a small bungalow in Andalucía.

Figure 1: The view from Dr. Isis's bungalow in Andalucía.

There I spend my evenings working as a flamenco dancer and my afternoons drinking wine and eating tapas.

Realizing that I am committed to my office and science and grant-y type things, I am happy to trade my flamenco dreams for these...

in the words of some of my best friends, those are "sickening, stanky, and fierce as hell"

and, yes, those are all good things.

Yup, Lickable and Fierce! I love Riverdance.

I'm not sure if I want the shoes, but I desperately want an outfit that would go with them.

The color is great, that *thing* on the front, naaaa. But can I join in for the tapas?

5

Definitely a dancer's shoe. And I'm in love with the color! I can imagine them a deep blood red too.

Isis, I love you but those shoes are absolutely hideous!

Am given to agreement with Donna and Fia. Could do without the ruffles, but damn do I want to go dancing.

I have a sneaking suspicion those would kill my poor feet, but that doesn't stop some strange desire to have them. I can't tell if they're awesome or awful!

This is easy, ktbug. They are clearly awesome.

I would wear those shoes with jeans, or a pant suit, or almost anything. I would stop strangers on the street to point them out (if they didn't stop me first). I might dance on tables in the cafeteria.
They are not just awesome. They are inspirational...

Ok, love the design, hate the color. I'd totally love it in bright flaming red though!! Then I'd wear it with EVERYTHING and dance with Pascale on cafeteria tables. Hmmm, I see it comes in a black version too... *counts pennies again*

I'm not so sure about the shoes, but the flamenco was inspiring. And I'd love to hang with you in your seaside villa.

The woman sitting next to me at church last weekend was wearing these in RED. They are even hotter in person. The picture does not do them justice, especially the "thing" on the front.

What a coincidence... that is also the view from my bungalow in Andalusia.

Those shoes: muy caliente.
