The Egyptian goddess Isis was celebrated as the ideal wife and mother. The blogger known as Dr. Isis has some fancy-sounding degrees and is a physiologist at a major research university working on some terribly impressive stuff. She blogs about balancing her research career with the demands of raising small children, how to succeed as a woman in academia, and anything else she finds interesting. Also, she blogs about shoes. In fact, she blogs a lot about shoes.

...And behold, he raised the motherfucking Jameson on high as Isis bedecked her feet in glory, and the masses were sated. -- The Holy Gospel According to PhysioProf

Silence is the Enemy -- Nicholas Kristof's Video Companion Piece

Category: Silence is the Enemy
Posted on: June 4, 2009 12:01 AM, by Isis the Scientist

This month I and other bloggers are donating our blog revenues to Doctors Without Borders to help the victims of sexual violence in Liberia. You can continue to help the cause by clicking on my blog, and the other sponsoring sites, a million times a day. You can also give directly to Doctors Without Borders by clicking here.

As I continue my own research into this area, sparked by Nicholas Kristof's excellent Op-Ed piece, and work to craft my letter to Ambassador Rice, I remain heartbroken by this tragedy. Tonight, my heartbreak was deepened when I watched the video companion piece to Kristof's written article. I'd encourage you to watch it and to consider a few more clicks a day. Or, even better, telling a few more people about our efforts.

I'll be back with you soon with a new Letter to Our Daughters. In the meantime, I hope you will consider clicking in support of our daughters and sisters currently suffering these atrocities.

I also hope that you'll consider sharing this video with those you know. At the time I am posting this, it has received 644 views. I think this is too important to not have been viewed by millions...
