The Egyptian goddess Isis was celebrated as the ideal wife and mother. The blogger known as Dr. Isis has some fancy-sounding degrees and is a physiologist at a major research university working on some terribly impressive stuff. She blogs about balancing her research career with the demands of raising small children, how to succeed as a woman in academia, and anything else she finds interesting. Also, she blogs about shoes. In fact, she blogs a lot about shoes.

...And behold, he raised the motherfucking Jameson on high as Isis bedecked her feet in glory, and the masses were sated. -- The Holy Gospel According to PhysioProf

Shoes to Sate the Masses...

Posted on: July 16, 2009 10:53 PM, by Isis the Scientist

One of you has asked for shoes instead of snark. While I am still having fun "exploring the issues" in another thread, I appreciate your need for shoes. Thus, in honor of those I address in that thread, may I present:

Ooooooh, shoes! I like the red version too. So adorable.

I'm probably getting banned for blasphemy on this one, but I'll say it anyway: Based on the shoes you posted, I've concluded that all Naughty Monkey shoes are the same goddamn shoe with different tacky decorations.

Although, as tacky decorations on shoes go, this is actually almost a nice shoe.

I used to be of the frame of mind that shoes were just shoes, and so I'd buy the cheapest pair of shoes that fit, and be done with it.

However, as a gift once, someone bought be a pair of Red Wing shoes, and I loved them. They were great, albeit a tad bit expensive (by my own frugal standards), and I wore them for about 6 or 7 years. I was left with the dilemma of going back to another pair of cheapo shoes, or sucking it up and getting a real good pair. So I bought a pair of Ecco's, and I love them. Well worth the price too!

I will never buy a pair of cheapo shoes again. Ever.

I concede, Dr. Isis. Those aren't the same shoes.

YAY!!! Most beautiful goddess, you sure know how to brighten a lady's day. I needed a pick-me-up of the shoe/jam/isis insanity variety, and you delivered. :)

Much of this APS sex conference has been a shoe fix.
For a short meeting (opening reception, 2 full days, and a final morning session) I brought 2 neutral pairs of real shoes, my new Sketchers Shape Ups (in case I got the urge to take a healthy power-walk), and I wore my new Fit-Flops on the plane (great for the pool; ugly as sin, but they really do work your butt). Some women here have not worn the same pair twice, and we are talking about some elegant, worthy-of-my-envy stuff. Thank you, Katheryn Sandberg!

Wonderful Isis,
I love how the shoes you choose are simply amazing, yet unbelievably affordable.
