Isis sidebar.jpg

The Egyptian goddess Isis was celebrated as the ideal wife and mother. The blogger known as Dr. Isis has some fancy-sounding degrees and is a physiologist at a major research university working on some terribly impressive stuff. She blogs about balancing her research career with the demands of raising small children, how to succeed as a woman in academia, and anything else she finds interesting. Also, she blogs about shoes. In fact, she blogs a lot about shoes.

...And behold, he raised the motherfucking Jameson on high as Isis bedecked her feet in glory, and the masses were sated. -- The Holy Gospel According to PhysioProf

Dr. Isis and PalMD on Bloggingheads!

Category: Lovely Sciblings
Posted on: October 24, 2009 10:28 AM, by Isis the Scientist

I had the real pleasure to do a Bloggingheads last night with PalMD of the White Coat Underground blog.

If you'll notice, I dressed up for the occasion:

A couple of things I find humorous as I look back at the video -- PalMD and I decided to share a beer and glass of wine.  PalMD drinks his beer out openly, enjoying the comfort of his pseudo-pseudonymity. I realized however, as soon as I put on my mask, that I wasn't going to be able to drink my wine. So, you'll see me trying to get around the mask, trying to drink my wine through a straw.  Amazingly awkward, guys. But, it'll at least show you the value I put on that glass of wine last night. Also, I think in the video that PalMD admits that PhysioProf is usually right. Whoa!

Also, for the record, I did NOT start the atheist talk. It was not me, little muffins. I was but a moving target.....

Looks like the Halloween costume dilemma is all taken care of...

Off to watch the later videos . . .and maybe this one, if only to see wine sipped through a straw. How barbaric...

Wow--great conversation. I'm disappointed that you were "scrubbed in" the entire time, although of course I would do the same. (You still looked very hot, though.) I was very interested and watched to the very end--I especially liked your discussions about how clinical practice versus research shapes the questions you ask and the ways you go about solving problems. I think Pal MD is right, too, about the ways that blogs foster interdisciplinary conversations.

One of the reasons I think you and Pal MD are effective bloggers is that your personalities are evident and effectively conveyed on your blogs. This webcast illustrates that very nicely.

(Confidential to Dr. Isis: I got my "Marxist Feminist dialectic" T-shirt in the mail the other day--order a size larger than you ordinarily would, that's my advice. Or, make sure your husband doesn't put it in the dryer!)

Oh bless you for mentioning that bit about context dependence. So many models to choose from...

Pal is nowhere near enough of an asshole to be PhysioProf.
