The Egyptian goddess Isis was celebrated as the ideal wife and mother. The blogger known as Dr. Isis has some fancy-sounding degrees and is a physiologist at a major research university working on some terribly impressive stuff. She blogs about balancing her research career with the demands of raising small children, how to succeed as a woman in academia, and anything else she finds interesting. Also, she blogs about shoes. In fact, she blogs a lot about shoes.

...And behold, he raised the motherfucking Jameson on high as Isis bedecked her feet in glory, and the masses were sated. -- The Holy Gospel According to PhysioProf

Dr. Isis's Shoe of the Week

Posted on: October 25, 2009 11:45 AM, by Isis the Scientist

I am in love this morning, little muffins. I mean it. My heart is absolutely melting...
Miss Me Joanne plaid pump.jpgFigure 1: Miss Me Joanne 9 Plaid Platform Pump $34.95 at DSW.com.

If that shoe were any sweeter, I would need supplemental insulin.

Speaking of amazing shoes in beautiful colors, I have an email to answer later from a woman who is wondering if she can wear bright red pumps to give a plenary lecture.

Hmmm....

I agree the shoes are beautiful but can you really walk in them?

Red pumps for a plenary lecture are good. go for it

Walking in them is merely a matter of practice. The more you do it, the better you are at it. Some shoes are more comfortable than others and that's all a matter of trial and error.

If I were doing a plenary session, I would totally rock these Steve Madden leopard platforms I saw at the mall yesterday.

Red pumps for a lecture? Of COURSE she can, as long as:
1. She walks around a bit in front of the lectern so that people actually SEE the shoes
and
2. Any other reddish colour she wears is the same red.

Dr. Isis. Thank you for airing my question. I have gone with the knee high 3 inch heeled black boots. Was worried I would not be able to carry off the red pumps. So, my shoes are still hot but not super hot. Hopefully the plenary talk will go well and next time I will have the courage to wear the red pumps.
