Isis sidebar.jpg

The Egyptian goddess Isis was celebrated as the ideal wife and mother. The blogger known as Dr. Isis has some fancy-sounding degrees and is a physiologist at a major research university working on some terribly impressive stuff. She blogs about balancing her research career with the demands of raising small children, how to succeed as a woman in academia, and anything else she finds interesting. Also, she blogs about shoes. In fact, she blogs a lot about shoes.

...And behold, he raised the motherfucking Jameson on high as Isis bedecked her feet in glory, and the masses were sated. -- The Holy Gospel According to PhysioProf

The State of the Blog

Posted on: November 4, 2009 11:58 AM, by Isis the Scientist

So, yesterday was the first day in a while that I went with no post. I am mildly mortified, but I was also exhausted when I got home last night and had nothing pre-written to throw up. I ended up going to bed at 8pm. Even shoes were uninteresting to me last night. The only thing that tempted me was the softness of my pillow and the beauty of behind my eyelids.

If you've emailed me a question in the last couple of days (I'm looking at you, End Note question asker), I'll get to it. I will. I promise. After work I will get back in the saddle.

And now, back to science...

I'm fascinated by the recent trend in feeling guilt about not blogging (Alice at Sciencewomen had a similar post). I tend to feel guilty about everything, deserved or not. But I do not begrudge anyone a day off (or 2 or 3) from blogging - at the very least, it allows me to finally be productive, instead of repeatedly hitting the refresh button to devour Isis's latest missive.

Oooh, EndNote! Let me answer - I practically worship EndNote! Not as much as the Goddess, of course =).

And I second Jen - no guilt for the Goddess! Your chickies can occupy ourselves for a few days without you, though with not as fulfilling lives, of course.

p.s. - We've fallen behind DrPal in DonorsChoose.org, plus my project may not get funded all the way. 4th place for the Goddess!? I think we need another rallying call!
