Isis's Heart.png

The Egyptian goddess Isis was celebrated as the ideal wife and mother. The blogger known as Dr. Isis has some fancy-sounding degrees and is a physiologist at a major research university working on some terribly impressive stuff. She blogs about balancing her research career with the demands of raising small children, how to succeed as a woman in academia, and anything else she finds interesting. Also, she blogs about shoes. In fact, she blogs a lot about shoes.

"Set Oculus" is obviously a pseudonym. My real name is mysteriously hard to pronounce. I live in the rust belt of the US but am fortunate to have an income that allows me to pursue my interests in science and culture without starving. I'm very geeky. I like Star Trek but I don't get "slash" fiction; the thought of Star Trek characters "doing it", well, it's like your parents doing it. Ew.
I care. I really do. That's why I'm a voracious consumer of news, books, journals, and blogs. My writing reflects whatever my ADHD allows me to focus on at that particular moment so if you're looking for some sort of "theme", forget about it. I welcome your emails, comments, etc., but because I care, I may be quite critical. (That was a gentle warning.)

Dr. Isis's Shoe of the Week

Category: Weekly Shoe
Posted on: December 1, 2009 9:20 AM, by Isis the Scientist

Wow, we have been talking about a lot of science here recently. It's really distracted me from my one true blogging love -- shoes.

Lovely reader Lauren sent these to me yesterday. when I first saw them in black I was reasonably taken with them:

Figure 1: Lovely People Vera Pump. $138 at Piperlime.

I mean, a 4 inch heel and scalloped back with get me every time. I am pretty predictable that way. But then I saw them in all their bronze, sequined, fabulous glory:

Figure 2: I am now totally convinced that there is a God, that God lives in Heaven, and these shoes were made out of materials mined there. Amen

I love your shoes Dr Isis but you know in heaven you don't need shoes. there you go and live for ever naked. Unless Saint Peter, the holder of the keys, changes the rules, I would strongly discourage you to think about heaven. Little Isis, listen to me, there is boring, Saint Peter separates boys from girls, boys from boys and so on. You're supposed to spend day and night in your cabin by yourself just thinking.

Okee Dokee Eileen.

I had presumed heaven involved the lovely Isis going around in just these shoes

hmmm, I subscribe to the Chanel maxim, so the brown spectrum shoes are a little outre for me, although I am loving them in black.

With what would one wear the brown? I could perhaps see them peeking out of very well cut camel slacks paired with an extremely fierce cream cashmere turtleneck.

I was actually thinking these would be lovely with some dark washed denim jeans and a cream colored sweater. I am still in love with these even hours later. Camel colored slacks could also be ferosh.

Is the bronze red-enough to wear them with a dressy red dress with gold accents?

Gosh, they're lovely.
