Shoulder Cats are the latest fashion

Cole

A few weeks ago I posted a picture of Hermes, a kitten that I was fostering in my apartment and has found a loving home. When Hermes left, though, another kitten needed a home and his name was Cole, and he likes being a shoulder cat. He also likes to scream his little head off if you have food that he wants and pounce on your face in the middle of the night, but he's cute enough to get away with it. He too will go to adoption day this weekend and I have no doubt that someone will take him home.

Our second cat, Gizmo, doesn't exactly howl when she wants food, but she starts clawing at things and running around like she's chasing an invisible mouse. She also jumps on my face in the morning, which is not pleasent. ;-)

I trained my Maine Coons to be shoulder cats when they were just kittens. I now have a 20 pound silver tabby who likes to stand on my shoulder and sit with his fluffy butt braced against my head for stability...

LOLcat in-joke

He's cute, but is he as voyeuristic as Ceiling Cat?

The only kitten I've had remain a shoulder cat as an adult is a 5 lb. runt-of-the-litter Burmese kitty. The larger cats all gave up on my sloping shoulders at some point, but Natasha imperiously hops onto my shoulder and settles herself in. (She compensates for her tiny size and aging joints with attitude).

One observation: shoulder kittens invariably adore dangly earrings. That probably isn't a fashion you commonly wear, though.

One guy I used to know owned a chihuahua that rode on his shoulder whenever going out. The haunches would be on the shoulder and the forelegs wiuld be braced down on the chest.

next you'll be posting pictures of your war-torn, bandaged shoulder covered in claw-puncture wounds :)

Oddly enough, Cole actually likes up up on my shoulder. He's a very "In your face" cat, in that being right up in my face is where he likes to be. Last night he came up onto the bed as I was settling down to sleep and curled up right under my chin, although he likes to pounce on fluttering eyelashes so sleep isn't always very restful.
