Is that fossil or a replica? It looks suspicious.

Zach; As far as I'm aware it's the real deal. You can find details about the skull and this particular mount in Matthew & Brown's 1923 paper here.

Yep, that's the real deal. And an excellent photo, too: that is a hard mount to get a clear lateral view of. (I assume you had a pretty good zoom lens for that!)

I can't remember how I was standing to get the shot, but it was a bit tricky (especially since the glare on the glass can be a bear). The lens I had at the time was a 45-150mm, which gets the job done at most museums and zoos when you can get close (but not too close). I just wish I still had the original photo since the resolution is so much better!

I'm actually headed to the AMNH tomorrow, although I still don't have a replacement camera so I won't be able to re-stage any photos. Maybe next time.
