It's got quite dark wings for a herring gull, or is that normal in North America?

It looks like a Great Black-backed Gull to me, with the dark back and upperwings.

I had the same thought as Rob. Herring Gulls never have a mantle that dark. I think that's a Great Black-backed Gull.

Mantle is much too dark for a Herring Gull.

Would you be willing to let me dowload the full-size of that? I really like the light-play on the bird's underside, as well as the rather defiant-looking pose (so very gull!)
