Why the Loom?

"...among the joyous, heartless, ever-juvenile eternities, Pip saw the multitudinous, God-omnipresent, coral insects, that out of the firmament of waters, heaved the colossal orbs. He saw God's foot upon the treadle of the loom, and spoke it; and therefore his shipmates called him mad."
--Moby Dick

A Satisfied Customer

Category: Upcoming Talks
Posted on: March 3, 2008 11:50 PM, by Carl Zimmer

My talk last week at Carleton University in Ottawa went well--here's an interview with the university's magazine, and here's a report from someone in the audience.

More talks are coming up--

Next week: The evolution of whales at Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota, Florida.

Next month: Soul Made Flesh at the University of Denver.

And plenty more coming in May and June...

[Update: I should also mention that if there's anyone interested in my giving a talk, the good people at the Knopf Speakers Bureau will be able to help you. ]

I hope you'll be coming up to Calgary some time in the near future...I've seen a video clip of you being interviewed, and read a lot of your articles, and it seems like you'd be a very engaging speaker.

Hi Carl,

The link to RSVP at DU goes to a closed survey, FYI.

I've sent an e-mail to DU for them to fix it, but regardless, I hope I'm able to make it! Figures you'd pick Tax Day...... ;-)

Yeah, a Calgary appearance would be great, but what I would really like would be an Okanagan College or UBC Okanagan appearance.

Short of that, I'll wait until I move back east, and someday be near enough to hear a lecture!

I'm another satisfied customer, Carl. Excellent talk. When you were wrapping up, I checked my watch. You'd been speaking for about an hour, but it had seemed like only 20 minutes.

Oh, and though I got you to sign my old copy of At Water's Edge (an updated edition of which I'd buy in a heartbeat), I did get Parasite Rex. It's my current commute reading. Fascinating stuff.

I was riding the bus past the university, and caught the lightup billboard mentioning you coming into town. One of those times I wish I was back in school.
