Thesaurus Rex, over at Shakespeare's Sister makes one of the best observations about the Blond Banshee's claim that the Sept. 11th widow's are unassailable:
The 'droids of the Reich Wing are in full rout. Ann Coulter is far, far out on a limb with her latest attacks on the 9/11 widows and sawing fast. But the rats who have chosen to stay on the ship to support her (Horowitz and Mary Magdalen Matalin, notably) are pushing this meme that critics can't or aren't allowed to "respond to" Cindy Sheehan and the 9/11 widows.
Okay, let's get something straight here. First of all, you can respond to Sheehan and the 9/11 widows all you want. Listen to what they're saying and respond to it. They say they're unhappy with the measures taken since 9/11 to assure that no one else has to walk in their shoes. A Republican could respond to that by pointing to all the steps the administration has taken to improve our security situation, such as they are.
What you can't do is swift-boat these people. They have suffered a legitimate and agonizing personal loss. They're a blazing, maddening red flag to the Rightards because their loss can't be minimized or questioned. It is real.
There's something the Blond Banshee and her fellow travellers don't get: there is a difference between responding to an argument and character assassination. Too bad they don't get that.

"I became involved when the Sun-Sentinel in Florida reported that Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) said the U.S. poses the top threat to world peace. I watched in dismay as the media and bloggers worldwide reported on this misquote."
"My involvement continued when I discovered Diana Irey, John Murtha's political opponent, had attacked Murtha using a fictional quote attributed to Abraham Lincoln."
"Larry Bailey of bootmurtha.com is continuing his three year blind support of our current Commander in Chief's incompetence in war. President Bush declared war in Iraq without the 4th Infantry, our most lethal, modern, and deployable heavy division in the world," added Hancuff.
This mistake lead to the atrocity of Al Qaqaa. Iraqi insurgents stole hundreds of tons of high explosives to be used as weaponry.
"These are the explosives being used by Iraqi insurgents and al Qaeda to perpetuate the war in Iraq."
"I am distressed that the same issues ignored by Swift Boat Veterans for Truth in 2004 are being ignored again in 2006," said Hancuff adding, "Americans, American soldiers and their families deserve better."
"Without these critical mistakes made by our current Commander in Chief, our American troops would be home with their loved ones, with honor, right now."
