Palin Refuses to Call Bombers of Women's Health Clinics Terrorists

From the Oxdown Gazette comes this interview transcript with Sarah Palin:

Brian Williams: Back to the notion of terrorists and terrorism, this word has come up in relation to Mr. Ayers -- hanging out with terrorist - domestic terrorists. It is said that it gives it a vaguely post uh 9-11 hint, using that word, that we don't normally associate with domestic crimes. Are we changing the definition? Are the people who set fire to American cities during the '60's terrorists, under this definition? Is an abortion clinic bomber a terrorist under the definition?

Sarah Palin: There is no question that Bill Ayers via his own admittance was um one who sought to destroy our US Capitol and our Pentagon -- that is a domestic terrorist. There's no question there. Now others who would want to engage in harming innocent Americans or um facilities, that uh, it would be unacceptable -- I don't know if you could use the word terrorist, but its unacceptable and it would not be condoned of course on our watch. I don't know if what you are asking is if I regret referring to Bill Ayers as an unrepentant domestic terrorist. I don't regret characterizing him as that.

Brian Williams: I'm just asking what other categories you would put in there. Abortion clinic bombers? Protesters in cities where fires were started, Molotov cocktails, were thrown? People died.

Sarah Palin: I would put in that category of Bill Ayers anyone else who would seek to destroy our United States Capitol and our Pentagon and would seek to destroy innocent Americans.

No Democratic politician, even an anti-choice one, would have a hard time answering this. And note the circumlocution Palin uses: "innocent Americans." Disgusting.

And the Coalition of the Sane, we're the ones who aren't 'real' Americans and are 'weak on terrorism'?

More like this

I saw this interview. I was more than a little disappointed that Brian Williams didn't press her a third time. I don't think she would have answered one way or the other, but it would have made the point even stronger. Perhaps Brian realized it would be a lost cause.

Why would she call her fellow true believers terrorists? You know that she agrees with their actions as god's avengers.

According to her, then, McVeigh was not a domestic terrorist, because he didn't attempt to blow up the capitol or the Pentagon? Apparently, the definition of "terrorist" is different for "furriners" vs. "mercans". If you're not from here, then blowing up or attacking ANY building on American soil is terrorism. But if you're American, then you are a terrorist only if you blow up the capitol or the Pentagon.

Not that I'm surprised. As some have pointed out, she can't admit that an act that would be considered terrorism by a foreign national is also a terrorist act if it is committed by an American, because then she would have to publicly say that blowing up abortion clinics is wrong.
