Poll: Rank-and-File Republicans Are Insane

Here are some 'interesting' results from a poll conducted by Research 2000:

QUESTION: Do you think Barack Obama is a socialist?

Yes 63
Not Sure 16
No 21

But that's not the crazy part. There's more:

QUESTION: Do you believe Barack Obama wants the terrorists to win?

Yes 24
Not sure 33
No 43

Moving right along....

QUESTION: Do you believe ACORN stole the 2008 election?

Yes 21
Not sure 55
No 24

Yes, three-quarters of Republicans are open to the idea that a cash-strapped community group composed of a lot of poor and working class people created millions of illegal votes. But we're still not at the crazy point. Really:

QUESTION: Do you believe Barack Obama is a racist who hates White people?

Yes 33
Not sure 31
No 36

That's right: two-thirds of Republicans are open to the proposition that Obama hates white people--which, no doubt, is why his administration is full of honkies them. OK, onto treason.

Yes, treason:

QUESTION: Do you believe your state should secede from the United States?

Yes 23
Not sure 19
No 58

Two out of five Republicans are considering the idea of secession. Because it worked out so well for everyone last time.

Can we finally realize that this is not really a problem of framing, of communication? Propaganda, yes. Framing, no. Roughly thirty percent of the U.S. is batshit lunatic insane. You don't even waste your time negotiating with them. You can't negotiate with people who are this unhinged from reality. Fortunately, they are a minority, who only have that power which is ceded to them.

Now, if the Democrats only understood that....

Aside: I didn't think it even worth mentioning that 77% answered "yes" to the following question: "Should public school students be taught that the book of Genesis in the Bible explains how God created the world?" Or that TEH GAY is evil. And sex ed too. At this point, that's just trite.

More like this

My last family reunion felt like a Tea Party convention. Either I'm related to all them or the crazy is more extensive than you think.

Insanity is contagious. These nuts would not believe this sort of crap if it weren't for constant exposure to it via internet goons and propaganda outlets like Fox (and enables in the mainstream media). They might be wearing foil hats to keep the aliens from controlling their thoughts, but most of the rest of the outlandish stuff wouldn't have occurred to them.

But they would still hate Obama because he's black.

They should rerun the poll with identical questions with Democrats (with Democrat candidate names). Do you think crazy is limited to Republicans?

Driftglass has been saying exactly this for fucking years! There is no reasoning with intellectual and moral degenerates like these fuck-ups. And wait for the apologists come out of the woodwork and accuse you of being an "eliminationist" because you aren't preaching comity and "reaching across the aisle".

This poll is something to laugh about, but I don't see how you could take it the least bit seriously. As Moopheus pointed out, if Daily Kos was so confident that Republicans would come out super crazy in comparison to the rest of the country, why not ask the same questions of Democrats, Independents, and others?

I think that the problem can be located in our school system and churches. The problem is we do not encourage free thinking. We are taught to believe everything we told. If your teacher tells you something it becomes fact.

Pluto is a great example. We were taught that Pluto was a planet. Even thought we now know that is not true some still fight for our little satellite. And we now call it a dwarf planet. Given all evidence to the contrary, we still cling to the ideas we have been taught.

Like politics, we fight for the ideas we have been taught by our parents, teachers, churches, and peers. And if the Man on TV tells you to hate this or that we do it. Regardless to all the facts to the contrary.

This is not a rep or dem problem. I see both sides holding on to their truths. It really boils down to who is doing the talking and who is doing the listening.

Danielle,

I'm not sure that the "Pluto being a planet" issue is quite the same thing. Scientists have not really changed their position on what Pluto is (a small, round iceball with a tilted, elliptical orbit inhabiting the Kuiper Belt). It didn't shrink, change composition, or disappear.

Pluto is what it always has been. However, when additional similar bodies began to be discovered in the same region of space, it became necessary to narrow the definition of planet, both to keep from being overrun with Kuiper Belt iceballs in the lexicon of planets, and to make note of a class of bodies that had not been paid much attention (all those iceballs in the Kuiper Belt.)

Pluto never changed. Just the word planet. So it's more like a change in the tax code than it is like the discovery of Archaeopteryx.

Does this poll show that Republicans are crazy or that crazy people answer telephone polls? I've got better things to do than answer a poll - especially when they call in the middle of dinner.

Internal poll results:

QUESTION: Do you think that Dick Cheney is a National Socialist?

Yes 0.24
Not Sure 0.53
No 0.23
No, but he would have been 0.77

QUESTION: Do you believe that Dick Cheney wants the terrorists to win?

Yes 0.12
Not Sure 0.33
No 0.55
No, but secretly Yes 0.9944

QUESTION: Do you believe that the Diebold stole the 2004 election?

Yes 0.56
Not Sure 0.31
No 0.13
No, but they would have if necessary 0.64

QUESTION: Do you believe that Dick Cheney is a racist who hates Black people?

Yes 0.67
Not Sure 0.32
No 0.01
Yes, but he hates pretty much everybody 0.97

QUESTION: Do you believe that Alaska and the South should secede from the United States?

Yes 0.23
Not Sure 0.23
No 0.54
No, but I wish they would 0.88

Re: "Should public school students be taught that the book of Genesis in the Bible explains how God created the world?"

Welllllll...Genesis *does* describe how the Abrahamic god is meant to have created the world. Hence it is teachable. However, the fact that Genesis is a myth on a par with the Greek, Norse, Indian and Chinese creation myths, should also be taught.

I agree with Moopheus, except that you'd probably have to change some of the questions.

But crazy and stoopid are hardly in short supply.

Tamara,

I agree. But we still call it a Planet and we don't call the iceballs Dwarf Planets.
*from Wiki-
Pluto's orbit is different from those of the planets. The planets all orbit the Sun close to a flat reference plane called the ecliptic and have nearly circular orbits. In contrast, Pluto's orbit is highly inclined relative to the ecliptic (over 17°) and highly eccentric (elliptical). This high eccentricity leads to a small region of Pluto's orbit lying closer to the Sun than Neptune's. Pluto was last interior to Neptune's orbit between February 7, 1979 and February 11, 1999. Detailed calculations indicate that the previous such occurrence lasted only fourteen years, from July 11, 1735 to September 15, 1749, whereas between April 30, 1483 and July 23, 1503, it had also lasted 20 years.

We did teach people that Earth was flat. The Earth didn't all of a sudden become round. It was always round. And many people fought that concept as well.

I think that many of the anti-Obama folk hate him because he is African-American. It's pure and simple racism. Once you believe that a group of people is inferior, it's easy to believe anything negative about the group.

gee I've not been following these blogs very long but it seems the articles and comments must all be written by those on government grants of some kind...

hard core leftists all

Interesting observation, Steve G. Now, can you tell me which of the poll questions above to which a "yes" answer would not prove that the respondent is utterly insane and/or delusional? Regardless of political position, the survey should provide one with a reason to be worried, don't you agree?

Actually I am funded exclusively by the Illuminati, but thank you.

Danielle

We did teach people that Earth was flat. The Earth didn't all of a sudden become round. It was always round. And many people fought that concept as well.

Who precisely do you think fought this? You do know, do you, that Aristotle, back in the 4t century BC, was well aware that the Earth is spherical. It was probably discovered about a century before his time, by observation of the Earth's shadow on the moon during an eclipse. By about 200BC, Eratosthenes had actually measured the Earth's circumference, getting a figure within a few percent - possibly just 1% - of the presently accepted value. For more than two and a half millennia, anyone with any pretensions to learning in Western (and Muslim) culture has known that the Earth is a sphere. Only the ignorant and bigoted (like the respondents to this poll) would have claimed otherwise. Fortunately, back in those days, such opinions could be safely ignored.

I'd be interested to know how these 2000 Republicans were chosen. I mean, was it a random sample, or where these people polled during a tea party protest?

Danielle: "We did teach people that Earth was flat. The Earth didn't all of a sudden become round. It was always round. And many people fought that concept as well."

Nigel: "Who precisely do you think fought this?"

Uhhh, mapmakers?
