One nice thing about my recent trip to South Africa was that I could revisit the same species I shot on my last visit in 2003. Only, with decent equipment this time around. Check out the difference between the SLR (above) and the little coolpix digicam (below).

An obvious contrast is the stronger magnification of the SLR system, but I'd hold that the most important aspect is the flexibility of the off-camera flash, allowing for tight control over the lighting. Now I'll have to reshoot everything I did with the earlier camera.

My Wife shoots Nikon D360 (?). It is quite amazing really. She started with a Fuji equivalent of a coolpix, more or less. Of course she (and you) get better with time. But the change is dramatic and with the better equipment, her confidence is boosted and she is now a sought after portrait photographer in our area. Too bad we are moving in a few weeks!
But with you example above, its almost like its 2 different species!

The desert misses myrmecos, but it's nice to see you posting with equal vigor as before.
However... I should not have read this post. Seeing the p-n-s photo compared to an SLR is starting to make my Ricoh seem not so magical.
