The world's most advanced prosthetic hand is now available commercially for about US$18,000.

The device is controlled by the electrical signals generated by the muscles in the arm. It has independently movable digits, much like Ambroise Pare's earlier model.

I am reminded of Dean Kamen's new artificial arm/hand. The video of the arm in action will blow your mind.

I can't believe this is less expensive than a computerized knee (e.g., C-leg), which last I read still runs about $26K, yes, just for the knee. And I wonder how many people in this country not in the military will actually be granted access to the technology by their insurers, if they even have health insurance.

Sorry. I usually just lurk quietly.
