Tutankhamun's face revealed

The face of Tutankhamun has been revealed to the public for the first time.

The boy king, who is believed to have been 19 years old when he died, is the best known of all the pharaohs. But he was in fact rather unremarkable. Far more interesting was his father Akhenaten, the inventor of monotheism.

Just for fun, here's little novelty song from 1923 commemorating Carter's discovery: Old King Tut (mp3), by Billy Jones and Ernest Hare.

When I was a youth, I got to see Tut's treasures when they toured the US back in -- what was it? 77? 78? Anyway, it was a highlight of my childhood. I remember developing a big pre-adolescent crush on a certain canopic figure of a goddess. So I've always had a soft spot for the Boy King.

Oh, and proof that there's nothing new under the sun: The 70s museum tour also inspired a novelty song (YouTube).
