Some words on comments for NSN

Category: Annoucements
Posted on: April 6, 2006 8:11 PM, by Kevin Vranes

Seems like commenting on comments is all the rage these days, so I thought I should clarify the NoSeNada "comments policy."

  1. There is no policy.
  2. I reserve the right to arbitrarily delete any comment I feel like dumping, for whatever reason.
  3. If you've left a dumb comment that I deleted and you aren't happy about it, getchyerown blog.

Flipness aside,

  • I have never deleted a non-spam comment, even if I found it to be personally insulting to me or another commenter.
  • I read every comment thoroughly, even if I don't respond to them all -- please don't take it personally!

In general I would like to thank you for being very thoughtful commenters. Different bloggers engender different commenting styles from their audience, and I'm getting exactly what I would have hoped for: quality over quantity. I much prefer 5-10 thoughtful, longish comments over the 20 to 40 to 60 two-line echo-chamber sound bites that some blogs seem to attract. In my experience, when I'm reading other blogs, once I see that a post has more than 30 to 40 comments, they aren't worth the time.

On getting your comment posted: I have comments "open" (you don't need a typekey identity and the comments don't have to be moderated by me first). However, there are some spam filters at work, and as Sb has gotten hit harder and harder with little-dick spam*, and as I've had to spend more and more of my time clearing out junk, I've gotten more draconian with my comment filters. If you've posted a legit comment and you don't see it up within a reasonable amount of time, please email me!

Thanks for reading and participating in the discussions!

*(The lowest form of life on this fine planet is the got-nothing-better-to-do-than-make- other-peoples-lives-miserable scum spammer. Get a real job you morons!)

Good position. I too get very irked with all the smart-alecky, smarmy, smart-ass repetitive name calling that passes for discussion on some of these blogs. The opposition are "fundies", "wingnuts", etc. I know that we all don't like their positions on many things, but how many times does that have to be said. I think that it would be much more productive if all those commenters would put their energy into writing letters to the editor of their local papers instead of spending so much time performing a verbal circle-jerk on these blogs.
