An exploration of the serious/fun/ridiculous - past/present/future of the brain and the science that loves it.

The Homunculus

steve_icon_medium.jpgThe Omnibrain is a psychology graduate student at an online university. He hopes that the three weeks and $29.95 that he is spending on his Ph.D. will get him a job at a Tier 1 research university. Do online universities have postdocs? Ok...just kidding, The Omnibrain is a real graduate student at a real school somewhere in the continental United States - or maybe Europe.

Christmas trees on brains

Category: Biology

This has nothing to do with Christmas, trees, or human brains. Um. Instead, gorgeous photos of Christmas tree worms living on brain coral. Festive!

Knowing little about coral, I sought info and found I could Ask a Brain Coral about itself. Alas, big on factoids, but it didn't let me pose any questions. I'd rather learn about marine biology from "the sexiest bloggers at SB" ...

...Craig and Peter at Deep Sea News.
They're posting a series of 25 Things You Should Know About The Deep Sea. #10 is titled "Sampling the deep sea is difficult and requires a variety of equipment." Including robots, like one Peter recently dove with in the Gulf of Mexico. Sounds fun.
