Drug derived from marijuana suppresses appetite?!

danny07.jpg GW Pharmaceuticals has developed a diet drug derived from Marijuana which suppresses the appetite. This is especially surprising for obvious reasons - perhaps a little ironic?!
Clearly the marijuana plant contains many many different compounds - but who would have thought that one of them suppressed the urge to gorge yourself on cheeze doodles and icy pops. The drug will soon be entering into human trials to combat obesity.

Don't get too exited about getting high on the drug though since that doesn't happen to be one of the side effects. Well...that is unless you want to find the secret location where the Marijuana is being grown in southern England.

Here's the CNN article.

Question... could stoners take this drug before they smoked to alleviate the munchies?

"It's called the Camberwell Carrot because I invented it in Camberwell, and it looks like a carrot... this will tend to get you very high."

The Erowid Cannabis Vault has had cannabis classified as "Intoxicant; Stimulant; Psychedelic; Depressant" for years. The effects link off that page has a much more extensive list, and the description section of the effects page begins with: "Paradoxically, although cannabis is normally considered a relaxant / depressant, its effects are stimulating in a substantial portion of those who use it. While some people us it to help them sleep, others cannot sleep for 3-6 hours after their last smoke."
