Nick Cave and PJ Harvey together? Heaven, if I believed in it.

The Patti Smith cover of My Generation is better than the original (the whole ablum http://amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000BKDOB6/pharyngula-20 is great. Other covers, better than the original: Patti Smith's Gloria; Lemonheads, Mrs. Robinson; The Cowboy Junkies, Sweet Jane; Urge Overkill, Girl, You'll be a Woman Soon; Cake, I Will Survive (and I do like their cover of Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps.) Time to hit the tunes.

Since we are talking about covers that are better than the originals don't forget Marilyn Manson's version of Sweet Dreams and Type O Negative's version of Summer Breeze...

What about PJ Harvey, Nick Cave and Marianne Faithfull?

The P.J. Harvey / Nick Cave collaboration isn't as surprising as the Nick Cave / Kylie Minogue duet off the same album. Brilliant, though. Love that song.

afarensis, don't forget Type O Negative's version of Cinnamon Girl. Also, Bad Religion does some nicely paraphrased Xmas carols.

I had forgot about Cinnamon Girl...

PZ: do you mean "Ghost Riders in the Sky"?
(you seem to have created a recombinant of this title and the Doors' "Riders on the Storm"!

Hey, I actually recognize a couple of these, which isnt usually the case with PZs music lists (says the old guy).

Ghost Riders On The Storm is an interesting hybrid of both Ghost Riders in the Sky and Riders on the Storm. It actually works.

Not relevant to the post.
Good thing you just moved here, because your old place just got Farked for a photoshop thread on that giant jellyfish picture. http://forums.fark.com/cgi/fark/comments.pl?IDLink=1846219

Another "aw, yeah" for Death is Not the End. Not only are both the song and the cover style great, but it serves as the PERFECT button to the album.

It's real. It's off the album Murder Ballads.
Yes, I own it. ;)
In fact, my one and only nickname is off of that album. My name is Loretta... "Curse of Millhaven."

Leave My Monkey Alone
Yet another lesser known Zevon song about apes. Anyone who knows this one must be quite familiar with the bulk of his great career.
btw, Gorilla You're a Desperado is my favorite.
