My daughter has turned out to be a hippie. How could that have happened?

Oh, wait. It's been a long time, so I forgot. I guess maybe she just bred true.

Peace and love, baby.

oy, tell me about it. my kid is a music nerd and likes obscure bands that broke up before she even heard of them

she seems slightly more socially adept than I was, which I attribute wholly to her mother. hopefully she doesn't get any of the "freak out when she turns 17 genes" that caused me and her mother so many problems.

Good for her and good for you - hope my little girl grows up a hippie too. Gotta love a kid who respects and quotes John Lennon.

I had to laugh out loud upon reading her liberal/conservative post:

"And Rob is 70% conservative. Must now hide boyfriend from crazy father."

Well here's hoping she has a safer time in Morris than in Russia.

You know, considering some of the things those kids are saying, you may want to make sure she's at least taken a self defense class or two. At my high school (Monticello in Charlottesville, VA, back in 1998-2000) the anti-gay kids were shoving anyone they thought was gay, or odd, or associated with gay or odd people, down the stairs or into lockers and throwing pennies, apple cores, large ice chunks and plastic tray tables at our table at lunch. And what do you think the principal did? He came outside for a minute, said "Well, they aren't doing it *now*" and left without even talking to the rednecks throwing things.

Anyways, after having spent time in that environment I think it's awesome what Skatje is doing.

I was going to criticize her grammar skills (and by extension, your parenting skills) for not writing "It matters not whom you love", but then I saw that it was a Lennon quotation. I suppose I'll just have to take it up with his estate and shout at Yoko Ono a lot.
