A Galileo could no more be elected president of the United States than he could be elected Pope of Rome. Both high posts are reserved for men favored by God with an extraordinary genius for swathing the bitter facts of life in bandages of self-illusion.

Infectious agony

I succumbed to the tempting link Corrente waved around, and clicked through to see Connie Chung's farewell to some cable show I never heard of before. I suffered horribly, so it's only fair that you share my pain.

Holy crap.

Although if I were doing the final episode of a TV show that had been cancelled, I would probably do something similar. What are they going to do, cancel her?

It's kind of like goofing off on your last day at a job. What are they going to do, fire you?

I didn't catch the title of that; what was it? Something like "Ensuring I Never Get Hired Again"?

WOW... just... WOW

Thanks for scaring my adolescent mind.

Perched on the edge of a white grand piano and decked out in a full-length evening gown,..." quote from NY post.
Is it just me or is that grand piano really black? So much for accuracy in the media

The piano is black, but her gown is white, just like my T-shirt before I spewed coffee all over it.

That's surreal. I can only hope that, with the aid of nanotechnology, neurosurgeons will someday be able to find a way to remove that image from my brain.

Oh my, oh my, oh my. If you're unable to bear the whole clip, the dismount at 1:30 is not to be missed.

It really really is a shame you can't un-see something.

I swear, I *will* get you for this. I have no idea how, nor when... But you *must* be punished.

Effing unbelievable. I can't believe what I just saw! I need one of those Men In Black brain erasers...

Wow - and I thought Phil Mickleson blowing up on the 18th on Sunday was the worst screw up of the weekend.

She was drunk, right? And didn't know the cameras were rolling, right? Right?

Just for that, I'm providing a link to the new Folger's commercial, which has a jingle that will burn into your brain and never let go.

Oh man, Carlie, I think I am going to laugh for like 3 days after seeing that.

I want to hurt that video, but I can never hurt that video the way it hurt me.

the new Folger's commercial

I'm still trying to figure out what the heck that was.

May a camel spit in your coffee. I succumbed to both temptations.

The Chung spot was, um, surreal. It's hard to say what her motivation was. Maybe she secretly longs to be Carol Burnett ... without the singing voice ... or the comedic timing ... or any regard for her future in showbiz. (Well, TV news IS showbiz, after all.)

The Folgers ad reminded me of a bad sci-fi or kids' fantasy movie set to music, bad music. The creator must have been tripping on something besides coffee when he came up with that concept.

Even better, this
It's a Spanish parody of abstinence-promotion materials. I can't remember if PZ linked to it before. It's great even if one doesn't know any Spanish.
This is all to try to erase the Chung from the brain but it isn't really working.
