I've been reading Thomas Franks' What's the Matter with Kansas?(amzn/b&n/abe/pwll), and then today I read the excellent profile of Michele Bachmann in the City Pages. Yikes. The similarities are terrifying. Bachmann is a clueless ideologue who has harnessed the power of the Religious Right to ride to political power on issues like discriminating against gays and promoting creationism; she's the kind of candidate who preaches piety while legislating for the abolition of the minimum wage, exactly the sort Franks describes as wrecking Kansas while claiming to save its soul.
She's in a tight race with Patty Wetterling in Minnesota's Sixth district—this is the one I'll be watching in November, and I sure hope this state doesn't elect such an odious, sanctimonious fraud.

I'm confused, because in the photo I see at least two odious sanctimonious frauds -- one apparently in the middle of a horse's laugh, and the other clearly a horse's ass. So much for images clarifying a point...

Michele Bachmann is a vile, hateful, despicable human being. I live in the 6th district, and I can't believe she is actually leading Patty Wetterling. I'm ashamed of my neighbors. She is one of the few Republicans that welcomed campaign help from the White House. Cheney was here at least twice, GW came a couple of times, and even Laura Bush made a stop to support this cretin. I don't know if those visits made any impact, but I hope the voters here will wake up in time to keep her out.

Living in the safely Democratic 4th district (St. Paul), it does frighten me to gaze north. Let's hope there's some sanity in the suburbs come election day.

Ugh - and I was eating lunch when I saw this post - thanks for making me lose my appetite...
The only positive I can think of if she gets elected is that it would get her out of Minnesota more - my dream would be that she'll be crushed as a crazy-assed nutjob in the big tough world of Washington. Here in Minnesota I think a lot of people are too polite to know how to deal with such a maniac, and her voice is comparatively loud - nationally she'll sink.

The biggest thing I take from this is that off issue she has no idea what is going on. She hasn't taken the time to educate herself on anything other than what the church teaches, i.e gays are bad. Also, when she doesn't know what she's talking about she tries to make it appear like she does, and ends up sounding even worse. Her answer to the permanent farm disaster fund question is hilarious, and is only upstaged by the farmer: "What the fuck is she talking about?"

I'm not sure if he met her or not, but a friend of mine knew [one of] her son[s?] (just read that she had 23 foster kids, so no clue if he was biological or adopted). I'm not sure if this is the aforementioned friend's opinion, or her son's, but apparently she's a bitch.
I grew up in Stillwater. It's a shame that the town has been tainted with her presence.

I'm disappointed you didn't show the photos of her crouched behind some bushes, trying to 'spy' on some LGBT event. An event in a public place, which was, of course, open to anyone who wanted to attend or protest. She claims that she was not in the bushes, she was just wearing high heels, got tired, and needed to rest. What an idiot.

Sorry, but the "good" people of Stillwater (my cousin among them) don't get a pass on this. They keep sending that evil nutjob to the state Senate, and they'll probably vote strongly for her in November.

It's scary just how far someone can get in this country merely by saying the word "Jesus" repeatedly and claiming to be anti-abortion and anti-gay.
