HEY!! I'm a feminist, and I got married (albeit years after "the fact"). Couldn't pass up the cushy insurance he got his hands on. I resent that I had to get a "marriage license", however. Why couldn't I get the benefits with just a simple domestic partner registration? Congrats to the happy couple.

My guy and I are utterly repelled by the power game of being required to get a fricking permission slip from Uncle Sam just to have a pair bond and share a household. We didn't ask the permission of our parents or our friends, and we aren't much for church BS. So we just didn't play. It isn't that we're falling behind, it's that we're choosing not to apply for the considerable public dole that married people get.

See, this is one of those things where the humor is ruined for me because the knowledge that there really are people who think like this (that feminism necessarily implies rejection of any act or condition recognizably associated with "patriarchal" expectations of women, with no consideration of said act or condition on its own merits) is a burden on my psyche.
Not least of which because I suspect a (small) number of people who comment, or have commented, on this board would lay into me for accepting my wife's present for our 2 year old daughter of a set of toy domestic tools...though I suspect that she'll probably want to keep grabbing and playing with the grownup broom. Or, for that matter, not trying to talk her aunt-in-spirit out of getting her a pink baby doll.
Anyway, congratulations Lauren.
