Random Quote

God does not exist if Big Bang cosmology, or some relevantly similar theory, is true. If this cosmology is true, our universe exists without cause and without explanation. There are numerous possible universes, and there is possibly no universe at all, and there is no reason why this one is actual rather than some other one or none at all. Now the theistically alleged human need for a reason for existence, and other alleged needs, are unsatisfied. But I suggest that humans do or can possess a deeper level of experience than such anthropocentric despairs. We can forget about ourselves for a moment and open ourselves up to the startling impingement of reality itself. We can let ourselves become profoundly astonished by the fact that this universe exists at all.

Reason #11 to vote for Pharyngula

Category: CarnivalsWeblogs
Posted on: December 14, 2006 1:46 PM, by PZ Myers

The 2006 Weblog Awards

Someone is voting like mad, and it ain't one of my partisans. The naked dude is passing me by and increasing his lead.

Vote for Pharyngula (and remember, you can vote every day!). Unless you really want to read my bitter, whiny concession speech.

>P.S. Another neck-and-neck race is shaping up in the Best Educational Blog category—quick, get over there and vote for Bérubé, or there will be more show trials!

As of 1:10pm CST, Pharyngul and Bad Astronomy were neck and neck, tied at 6183. I've been doing my part, canvassing the neighborhood, trying to "get out the vote". But the most common responses to my efforts are "What's a pharyngula?" and "What's an internet?"

I've just been over there Byron, and BA hasn't budged a vote but Pharyngula's now in the 625x region.

Just voted and PZ is in front by ~100. Maybe us voters should try to see how close we can get the result to a tie!

Hey PZ - you may be amused to know you're being compared to Phelps on Skatje's blog. ;)

Eggs standing up are much prettier than eggs clutched.

It's a race to the finish! This is exciting!

Unless you really want to read my bitter, whiny concession speech.

Decisions, decisions . . . .
