How can they have a respectable show trial if the defendant keeps defending himself so well? This is a classic and irrefutable response.

indeed, but special pleading on the part of the defendant, regardless of how eloquent, rarely influences judges.

I thought science guys could spot fallacies a mile away. He's just naming names to save his hide. First things first: Clarke, then the entire Bush administration.
