But knowledge of Jesus was limited to knowledge of Christianity; that is, had Jesus' adherents not started a movement that spread to Rome, Jesus would not have made it into Roman histories at all. The consequence is that we do not have what we would very much like, a comment in Tacitus or another Gentile writer that offers independent evidence about Jesus, his life and his death.

E.P. Sanders, The Historical Figure of Jesus (New York: Penguin, 1993), p. 50.

Drinking Liberally tonight

Category: LocalPolitics
Posted on: February 22, 2007 4:02 PM, by PZ Myers

We faculty at UMM are about to go off to a Campus Assembly meeting, which is always good for making one thirsty. Fortunately, there's a Drinking Liberally scheduled for tonight, at 6:00, at Old #1—it would be a great idea if we all stopped in for a little refreshment and conversation afterwards.

This is, of course, wide open to everyone of the liberal persuasion, so townies, out-of-townies, and students are also welcome to stop by.

Hey cool. I attend the Louisville chapter of DL, and we meet tonight at 7.

Here's hoping your meeting place doesn't overcharge you for beer like ours does.
