By their own words, therefore, creation-scientists admit that they appeal to phenomena not covered or explicable by any laws that humans can grasp as laws. It is not simply that the pertinent laws are not yet known. Creative processes stand outside law as humans know it (or could know it) on Earth — at least there is no way that scientists can know Mendel's law through observation and experiment. Even if God did use His own laws, they are necessarily veiled from us forever in this life, because Genesis says nothing of them.

Dr. Doom
Blessed with smarts and power but burdened by vanity.

Excellent.

Posted by: Hexxenhammer | February 10, 2007 10:19 AM

#2

Mystique

"Sometimes motherly, sometimes a beautiful companion, but most of the time a deceiving vixen."

The motherly part is correct.

Posted by: Paguroidea | February 10, 2007 10:30 AM

#3

Mr. Freeze (83%), Poison Ivy (73%), Dr. Doom (73%), with Magneto down at 54%.

Posted by: Blake Stacey | February 10, 2007 10:41 AM

#4

The Joker, both when I gave as reasonable answers as possible and even more when I allowed my inner madman free reign.

I had hoped for someone a bit more intellectual, but at least I'm suitably crazy.

Gack. The Riddler.

Posted by: George | February 10, 2007 10:44 AM

#6

Lex Luthor.

Posted by: Russell | February 10, 2007 10:59 AM

#7

My top three are Mr Freeze, Joker, and Dr Doom. Could be worse... although Mr Freeze always seemed a one-note villain to me.

Posted by: Stogoe | February 10, 2007 11:00 AM

#8

Dr. Doom, with Mr. Freeze a close second.

Posted by: Aureola Nominee, FCD | February 10, 2007 11:02 AM

#9

Hah! *I* am Magneto! I "fear the persecution of those that are different or underprivileged so much I am willing to fight and hurt others for my cause" Flattering.

#10

Poison Ivy

The Riddler, closely followed by the Joker.

Sigh, no superpowrs.

Posted by: MAJeff | February 10, 2007 11:11 AM

#12

Dr. Doom! Sounds about right!

Posted by: ChemBob | February 10, 2007 11:20 AM

#13

I scored as Dr. Doom, as well. I wonder if that's going to be a trend on this site. If so, why? What is it about Dr. Doom that fits with Pharyngula readers?

Dr. Doom never really struck me as a secular rationalist.

Posted by: Crosius | February 10, 2007 11:25 AM

#14

Hey! It would only let me select one choice on question #48!

I'm evidently Apocalypse. "You believe in survival of the fittest and you believe that you are the fittest." Sounds about right to me!

Except that they mis-spelled "fattest". But hey, close enough!

Posted by: Scott Simmons | February 10, 2007 11:25 AM

#15

Damn. I'm Mystique.

Since when did I become a vixen?

Posted by: Zeno | February 10, 2007 11:25 AM

I am also Mystique (48%), followed by Catwoman (44%)

However I don't think her clothes would fit me.

Joker followed on percent by Freeze.

Posted by: Robster | February 10, 2007 11:38 AM

#18

Poison Ivy

You would go to almost any length for the protection of the environment including manipulation and elimination.

That's me!

Apocalypse.

Excellent ... now, on to pillage ...

Posted by: Mark | February 10, 2007 11:43 AM

I was Lex Luthor:

A brilliant businessman on a quest for world domination and the self-proclaimed greatest criminal mind of our time!

Posted by: Skeptico | February 10, 2007 11:56 AM

#21

Poison Ivy, but probably only because Black Orchid wasn't among the choices...

Dr. Doom

Blessed with smarts and power but burdened by vanity.

I will destroy you all with my dashing good looks!

Posted by: Travismc | February 10, 2007 12:08 PM

#23

I am Mystique, followed by Catwoman (meow!) and Poison Ivy. All excellent supervillains!

Posted by: Jennifer Ouellette | February 10, 2007 12:13 PM

#24

I am Apocalypse. I believe in survival of the fittest...and I believe that I am the fittest.

Sounds about right.

#25

Apocalypse, followed by Dr. Doom and then Dark Phoenix.

Posted by: Chris Hallquist | February 10, 2007 12:16 PM

#26

Poison Ivy.

But what sort of quiz can claim to measure your Super Villainy when it doesn't include George Bush or Dick Cheney in the list? Though on second thoughts, they would have made all the others look like Super Heroes by comparison.

Posted by: Ray | February 10, 2007 12:36 PM

#27

Dr. Doom with Poison Ivy a close second. Sad part: I don't even remember who Dr. Doom is.

Posted by: Claire | February 10, 2007 12:45 PM

#28

Apocalypse? WTF?
Least I'm not the Joker or Firefly. Or that cat who runs around in a loincloth & cuts himself all over (I forget that wackjob's name).
Followed closely by Dark Phoenix & Poison Ivy.

Posted by: Krystalline Apostate | February 10, 2007 12:51 PM

#29

Dr Doom at 83% followed by Magneto at 77%

Posted by: Tony P | February 10, 2007 12:56 PM

#30

Poison Ivy (but at only 44% - I guess I'm just not that villainous in general) followed by Dr. Doom and Mr. Freeze.

Posted by: Sakurai | February 10, 2007 1:01 PM

...

...

Apocalypse.

Ever since the movie "Apocalypse Now" -- which came out the same year as "Star Trek - The Motion Picture," I seem to hear the word "apocalypse" as "Spock lips."

So I'm the supervillain Spock Lips.

Cower, illogical mortals, at my superior sneer.

Even though I distinctly remembering giving "do you like cold weather" a hard no, I got Mr. Freeze, followed closely by Poison Ivy, Dr. Doom and The Joker. I say this quiz is rubbish because it doesn't have an option for the Mad Thinker or his Awesome Android. If I were a mad scientist, I'd totally name my creations thataway. My Kick-ass Nuetron Flower Repolarizer. Just to see the newsreaders have to announce that I'm holding the president hostage with a Totally Airwolf Matter Rearranger.

Mine is just like yours, PZ, except that Joker is third from the bottom instead of third from the top. Too lazy for practical jokes.......

If one applies error bars (wherever those may lie...), top contributions to my supervillain status are about equally divided, at around 60% (middling supervillainry) among four choices: Mr. Freeze (61%), The Joker (60%), Poison Ivy (59%), and Apocalypse (57%). So - reserved, plant-loving, chemically-talented, super-intelligent, super-powered psychopath. Ok - I'll try to run with that, though in a middling way.

Posted by: beccarii | February 10, 2007 7:21 PM

I got Mystique followed by Poison Ivy, and I'm not even female. Maybe this means I'm not really a villain, much less a super one. I can live with that.

Now let's have an online test titled "Which ID proponent are you?" Anyone want to set that one up?

Of course,by todays comic book standards Magneto outedges quite a number of superheroes for sheer virtuosness and concern for the downtrodden.

Dr. Doom. I can live with that--he's very metal.
